Development Office

Between 2004 and 2006, the loss of $7 million in annual support from Erie County compromised the Library's ability to fulfill its mission of connecting our diverse community with library resources that enrich, enlighten and entertain.

We need your support now more than ever!

Please help us supplement our limited funding and:

Put needed books and other library materials directly into the hands of community members
Open doors at local libraries by restoring hours of service
Deliver essential literacy and other valuable library programs benefiting toddlers through seniors

2007 Year End Appeal

Your Buffalo & Erie County Public Library is being called upon to play a more important role than ever. And we need your help!

Our annual budget, provided through your tax dollars, does not cover the entire cost associated with our various literacy services and special programs nor does it keep pace with the information demands of our community.

We urgently need friends like you - people who truly appreciate the importance of our Library System - to connect our diverse community and enrich, enlighten and entertain you, your families and neighbors.

Your gift today will help provide a brighter tomorrow.

Please take a moment or two to learn more about how you can help us build our community together. If you are interested in making a contribution, simply clip the donation form at the bottom of the attached letter, place it and your gift of any amount in an envelope and mail it to:

Donation of Books and Other Materials

Don't discard books, DVDs, CDs or magazines after you have enjoyed them. If they are in good condition, the Library may add them to the collection or re-sell them and apply the proceeds to the purchase of new titles.

Shop

Think of the Central Library's Store first when looking for a unique gift item or an out-of-print gem for that special individual. Novel Ideas has hundreds of book-related items (ties, mugs, toys, puzzles and more), while Encore Editions sells duplicate copies of donated materials and books discarded from library collections.

Sweet Satisfaction -- Chocolate Library Cards

For chocolate lovers, the B&ECPL released a new product during National Library Week in April -- a gourmet chocolate library card.  Available at all participating library locations, including the Central Library's Store, the edible cards come in three flavors, milk, dark and almond.  The bars sell for $2.50 each and are manufactured by downtown Buffalo's only chocolate factory, Choco-Logo.  Proceeds directly benefit the library location where the chocolate is purchased.

Volunteer Your Time

We value your precious time in support of library activities. Volunteers are needed for special events (short-term) and recurring tasks (2-4 hours per week). Be a library advocate!

Charitable Partnering Opportunities

Summer reading programs for children, special events, author visits the Library welcomes opportunities to partner with non-profit organizations of similar mission as well as local businesses and corporate or private foundations to offer quality programs to the public.
