Special Meeting of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library Board of Trustees
December 30, 1999
A special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library
was held on Thursday, December 30, 1999 in the Central Library pursuant to due notice to
trustees. The following members were present: Rebecca L. Mahoney, Chair; Phyllis A.
Horton, Vice Chair; David J. Shenk, Treasurer; James W. Burns; Frank Gist; Remy Orffeo;
Elaine M. Panty; Robert J. Plache; Daniel T. Roach; Judith K. Summer; Sharon A. Thomas;
Stanley H. Zagora; George M. Zimmermann, Trustee Emeritus
Excused: Annette A. Juncewicz, conflict; Salvatore R. Martoche, out of town; Simone Mitchell-Peterson, conflict; Roland R. Benzow, Trustee Emeritus; Richard O. Hopkins, Trustee Emeritus; Morton H. Stovroff, Trustee Emeritus; John P. Wickser, Trustee Emeritus;
Chair Mahoney called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. in the Joseph B. Rounds Conference Room.
Ms. Mahoney informed the Board that Trustees Orffeo and Thomas would participate in the meeting by conference telephone connection. The Bylaws state that "Participation by such means shall constitute presence in person at a meeting."
Agenda Item A – Call of the roll. Twelve trustees were in attendance.
Agenda Item B – Appointment of Library Director. Ms. Mahoney
expressed her appreciation to those who participated in the selection of a new director. She indicated that it was a long process but that the Board took its responsibility seriously and has served the community well. She also thanked Human Resources Assistant Deputy Director Patricia Angstadt for all her help in this process.
Ms. Mahoney called attention to Proposed Resolution 99-75 which was approved by acclamation on motion by Ms. Summer and seconded by Ms. Panty.
RESOLUTION 99-75
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library has exclusive authority to hire a new Director of the Library and set the salary of the Director pursuant to Section 6214(a) of the New York State Unconsolidated Laws; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Board of Trustees of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library hereby appoints Ms. Diane J. Chrisman, Director of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, effective January 3, 2000, at a salary of $95,000.00 per year.
Ms. Mahoney welcomed Ms. Chrisman to the position of Director. She indicated that Ms. Chrisman has done an outstanding job for 13 months as Interim Director and as Director will lead the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library into the 21st century.
Director Chrisman expressed her appreciation to the Board and said she looked forward to working with the Board in the service of the community.
Trustees Thomas and Orffeo offered their congratulations and support.
On motion by Mr. Burns and seconded by Mr. Shenk the meeting was adjourned at 4:10 p.m.
