Here are some keyboard and mouse exercises to improve your skills.
The computer keyboard is like a typewriter
with special keys.

Sometimes you use special keys or key
combinations.

The mouse is used to select, activate and
manipulate features on the screen.
Practice using the mouse to move a scroll bar.
Windows programs use a scroll bar when there is more to be seen than can fit in one area.
Read the riddle in the text box. To see the answer, you will need to scroll to the
bottom of the box.
- Put the mouse pointer on the upside down triangle on the right hand side of the text
box.
- Click on it using the left mouse button. For every click the box will move down.
Practice using the Back Space Key to make corrections
- Put the mouse cursor (it will change from an arrow to a blinking line) at the end of the
sentence.
- Click the left mouse button one time. The typing cursor (flashing black line) should
appear after the word lamb.
- Using the arrow keys on the keyboard move the cursor next to the d in had.
- Press the BACKSPACE key to erase the d.
- Type an s to change the word had to has.
- To move to the next activity, click outside the box.
Making changes using the Delete key.
- Move the cursor (looks like a blinking line) to just after the b in lamb.
- Click the left mouse button one time. The typing cursor (blinking line) should appear.
- Using the arrow keys on the keyboard move the cursor to the beginning of the word little.
- Use the DELETE key to erase little.
- Type a new word to describe the lamb.
- To move to the next activity, click outside the box.
Selecting text using Click & Drag
- Put the mouse cursor next to the first l in little.
- Hold the left mouse button down.
- Move the mouse along the mouse pad so that little is now highlighted in
blue. The word little is now selected.
- Press the Delete or Back Space key. Now the entire word has been erased.
- Type in a new word to describe the lamb.
- To move to the next activity, click outside the box.
Selecting text using Shift and Arrow Keys
Try this method if you have trouble with Click and Drag.
- Put the mouse cursor between little and lamb.
- Click the left mouse button one time. The typing cursor (blinking line) should appear.
- Hold down the Shift Key
- Use the Arrow Keys to highlight the word lamb.
- Press the Delete or Back Space key. Now the entire word has been erased.
- Type in a new animal.
- To move to another page, click outside the box.
