echo Art Fair - Sept 6 & 7, $, discount with library card  Fair hours: Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 7: 10am to 6pm.  The space the fair will utilize in the Library is ideal: it is several thousand square feet larger than our previous venues, will be a raw, open space, it is well-ventilated and well lit - with floor-to-ceiling windows, and is ideally situated in the heart of downtown Buffalo.

Enter the downtown Central Library from the either one of these handicapped accessible entrances:

  • Washington Street entrance (across from Lafayette Square), between Clinton and William Streets.
  • Ellicott Street entrance, between Clinton and William Streets
  • Note: the Clinton St. entrance is no longer open unless there is an event taking place in the Library Auditorium.

Fables Cafe is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM - 3 PM (the kitchen closes 1/2 hour before closing time).

Assistive Technology Room (ATR) is open during all regular open hours.

Rare Book Room: Researchers are advised to call for an appointment at       858-8900.

 

Extending two city blocks in length, encompassing more than 400,000 square feet of floor space and more than 58 miles of shelving, the Central Library in Lafayette Square in the heart of downtown Buffalo is headquarters of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library system. Completed in 1964, this facility houses approximately 2 million volumes, special exhibition rooms for rare and valuable materials like the Mark Twain Room, a host of centralized administrative and support operations for the 37-outlet system, and a 324-seat auditorium with a Steinway grand piano. The auditorium and meeting rooms may be reserved for events.

Black and white copies are available at 15 cents each and color copies are available at 50 cents each. Public access computers are available. Printing from public access computers is 25 cents per page. "What can I do at a Public Access Computer?"

Wireless access is also available on both the first and second floor.

Library System Information on the Board of Trustees

The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System Board of Trustees is the governing body for the downtown Central Library, and the eight branch libraries located in the city of Buffalo. These include: Crane, Dudley, East Clinton, East Delavan, Frank E. Merriweather, Jr., Niagara, North Park and the Riverside Branch Libraries. 

All System Board of Trustee meetings and committee meetings are open to the public
