Buffalo Bandits Ryan Benesch & Mitch Jones @ the Library Today

Winter Reading 2017 Announced

Hello Winter, Welcome Books is the theme of this year’s community-wide Winter Reading Challenge which was kicked off today with Buffalo Bandits lacrosse players Ryan Benesch and Mitch Jones at the downtown Central Library.  Students from Buffalo’s Bennett Park Montessori School joined the Library System’s Reada Book Owl mascot for the announcement.

Now through Friday, March 17, readers of all ages are encouraged to get a book, read it and then log a short book review on the Library System website (www.BuffaloLib.org).  The more books one reads, the greater the odds of winning a Winter Reading prize.  There will be one winner randomly selected at each of the 37 Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries in categories for Children/Teens, Classrooms and Adults.  One lucky adult will score a Kindle Fire eReader.  Additionally, upon online registration and submission, each contestant is eligible to win one of the 37 library branch-level prizes including a $25 Amazon gift card.

“The world is at your fingertips when you read books,” Library Director Mary Jean Jakubowski told the attendees. “You can learn about sports, history, music, even the weather…anything under the sun by reading.”

Buffalo Bandits forwards Ryan Benesch and Mitch Jones ran over to the library in their orange and black team uniforms to assist with the announcement and show their support by reading to the young students. Benesch leads the Bandits with 21 points in three games this season, while Jones has nine points in three games, including five in Buffalo’s win on January 21. Both players are in their fourth seasons with the Bandits.
