Logo design winner by Josie LoVallo, Williamsville East High Student

Senior from Williamsville East High School is Overall Winner

More than 130 original artwork submissions were received from Erie County high school students for the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library’s logo design contest “Love Your Library – Library Awareness Month.”

The overall winner selected was Josie LoVallo, a 12th grader from Williamsville East High School.  Josie designed an attractive black and white logo that will be used by the Library System during the month of April to promote events and activities for Library Awareness Month. Her design will be used on posters, flyers, advertisements and in social media.  Josie receives a gift bag filled with art supplies, books, a portfolio, passes to Albright Knox Art Gallery and the Burchfield Penney Art Center and Target Gift Cards.

The runners up, each receiving a tote bag filled with a drawing pad, note cards, books and passes to Burchfield Penney Art Center are:

Jhanna Flora, 12th grade, Amherst Central High School

Jack Nelson, 11th grade, Amherst Central High School

 “The Library was extremely pleased with the huge response from local high school students, said Library System Director Mary Jean Jakubowski.  “All of the designs were really terrific; I wish we could have selected them all.”

 All 37 libraries in the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System will participate in Library Awareness Month in April by offering a variety of free programming for all ages. Downtown Central Library will kick-off a series of free noon hour concert events, the Judy Summer Concert Series, on Wednesday, April 2 with the Buffalo Chamber Players.
