Love Your Library - National Library Week April 9-15

Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries proudly join communities nationwide in celebrating the many ways libraries are transforming their communities through the invaluable services and expertise they offer.

April 9-15 is Love Your Library - National Library Week, a time to highlight the exciting and changing role of libraries, librarians and library workers.  There are several special programs and events taking place in Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries that reinforce the fact that free public libraries are places for information, discovery, creativity, engagement, collaboration and expertise.  According to the American Library Association, Libraries are trusted institutions because they offer the expertise of individual librarians who can assist patrons in using increasingly complex technology and identifying reliable sources for sorting through the overwhelming mass of information bombarding today’s society.  This is especially crucial when access to reliable and trustworthy data is more important than ever.

“Our 37 Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries and the Library on Wheels Bookmobile offer opportunities and resources for personal growth and lifelong learning,” said Library Director Mary Jean Jakubowski.  “By providing free resources such as downloadable eBooks and music, WiFi, public computers, technology classes, materials and lessons for English-language learners, health fairs and programs for job seekers, libraries and librarians are transforming our community each and every day.”

First introduced in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and recognized by public and school libraries across the country each year in April.
