Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System Announces National Library Week Activities
The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library announces Systemwide programs during National Library Week (April 8-15) including an online fundraising auction, noon hour presentations and tours of the downtown Central Library.
Beginning Sunday, April 8 and running through April 30, the library kicks off the Judy Summer Tribute Online Book Auction. More than 175 items including autographed books by local as well as national authors, signed theatre posters, vintage paper doll packages, CDs, DVDs and classic Life magazines will be available for online bidding via this website: www.biddingforgood.com/buffalolibrary .
The late Judy Summer was a Library Trustee who conceived of the auction last year as part of the Library’s 175th Anniversary. An educator with the Kenmore Schools, Judy gathered many of the donated items from her friends, family and former students including media correspondent Wolf Blitzer and actor Jeffrey DeMunn. Proceeds from the auction will go toward programming for all 37 libraries in the local Library System.
“The online auction will be a great start to National Library Week. As a whole, our libraries offer a wide range of opportunities to meet the needs and interests of Erie County residents,” said Mary Jean Jakubowski, director, Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System. “Every day we provide the community with tailor-made resources, computer and online services and programs for people of diverse backgrounds, language abilities and technological skills.”
