PUBLIC COMPUTER CENTER AT JULIA BOYER REINSTEIN LIBRARY RECEIVES GRANTS

Grants Awarded to Public Computer Center at Julia Boyer Reinstein Library

Funding For Additional Computer Training

 

The Public Computer Center (PCC) at the Julia Boyer Reinstein Library on Losson Road in Cheektowaga has been awarded three grants, allowing the Center to remain open and to continue to meet the needs of the community with free computer training.

Praxair Foundation provided a grant of $8,000.

Walmart in Lancaster provided a grant of $1,000.

Walmart in Cheektowaga provided a grant of $500.

 

Christine Bazan, director, Cheektowaga Public Libraries, said, “Our Public Computer Center really helps adults to learn and thrive in this ever-changing technological world. We are extremely pleased to receive these generous grants from multi-national companies with local interests here in Erie County.”

 

The grants will support two additional classes per week throughout the year.

The current schedule includes:

             Computer Training: Beginning Computers, Internet, File Management, Email

             Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Mail Merge

 Social Networking: Skype, Facebook, Twitter

 Workforce Development: Linked In, Resume Help, Electronic Job Applications, and Job Search Strategies

In 2010, the Cheektowaga Public Library PCC was one of thirty libraries across New York State funded with a $244,517 grant provided by the New York State Library Broadband Technology Program, part of the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

 

The Julia Boyer Reinstein Library and the Anna Reinstein Memorial Library on Harlem Road make up the Cheektowaga Public Libraries and are part of the 37-site Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System.
