“SECOND SATURDAYS” FREE FAMILY PROGRAMS

A new series of monthly performances and workshops geared toward kids and families at the downtown Central Library has been announced. Called “Second Saturdays” for its date placement each month, the programs will be co-presented by the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System and Young Audiences of WNY.

These programs, presented at the downtown Central Library, 1 Lafayette Square, are free, appropriate for all ages, and open to the public.

Saturday, April 14 -- Celes Tisdale – Yet I Do Marvel
1-2 p.m.

In honor of National Library Week (April 8-15), international storyteller Celes Tisdale will perform Yet I Do Marvel, a diverse collection of fanciful stories and poems, emphasizing the commonality of the human experience in cultures around the world.

Saturday, May 12 -- Rodney Appleby – Trick the Devil
1-2 p.m.

A one-man play, rooted in storytelling and music, describing one’s personal journey to the truth. The artist identifies opportunities to learn throughout the journey, as participants contribute to the storytelling process. Audience members experience personal choice, the desire to know, the effort to learn, and the consequences of persistence and commitment.

Saturday, June 9 -- Suzie Rozler’s Erie Canal Show
1-2 p.m.

Take a musical ride along the Erie Canal! A picture is painted with songs and instruments from the early times of the Canal. The program celebrates the waterway that changed 19th Century America.

Additional dates and performers throughout 2012 will soon be announced. For additional information about these and other activities at the Library, please consult www.buffalolib.org .
