CENTRAL LIBRARY INTRODUCES “LITERALLY SPEAKING”
~ A Monthly, Lunchtime Book Discussion Group ~
April 7, 2004 - Buffalo, NY - The Central Library
is introducing “Literally
Speaking,” a
downtown, lunchtime book discussion group. Beginning on April 20th, the group
will meet the third Tuesday of every month from 12:10 to 1 p.m. in the library’s
Central Meeting Room. All are welcome, and participants are encouraged to
bring their lunch to enjoy during the conversation.
Selected book titles include a mix of fiction and nonfiction, kicking-off
with the Piano Tuner by Daniel Mason on April 20th. This 2002, fiction book
describes the travels of middle-aged piano tuner Edgar Drake, who leaves his
comfortable home in England for the remote jungles of war-torn Burma in 1886
at the request of the British War Office. His commission is to repair the rare
Erard piano of an enigmatic army surgeon who is somehow indispensable to peace
in the region. The story of this debut novel unfolds with intriguing characters
and exotic locations.
Other featured titles include: Devil in the White City (nonfiction, 2003)
by Erik Larson on May 18th; Girl With a Pearl Earring (fiction, 2000) by Tracy
Chevalier on June 15th; Angels and Demons (fiction, 2000) by Dan Brown on September
21st; Bee Season (fiction, 2001) by Myla Goldberg on October 19th; and Limbo:
Blue-Collar Roots, White-Collar Dreams (nonfiction, 2004) by Alfred Lubrano
on November 16th.
