National Library Week, April 18th –24th, with a variety of informative
and entertaining events for all ages, announced Director Michael C. Mahaney.
“Public library usage is at an all-time high nationwide,” said
Mahaney. “The B&EPCL experienced the busiest year in its history
in 2003. These trends illustrate how important library service is to a community.
National Library Week is the perfect occasion to revisit your local library,
a center for information, education and entertainment.”
As a special National Library Week presentation, Bistro Bookers will be featuring
City of Buffalo Common Council President David A. Franczyk to discuss the book
Murdering McKinley: The Making of Theodore Roosevelt’s America by Eric

in Buffalo, Rauchway paints a fresh picture of American culture at the dawn
of the 20th century.
The book review and discussion will be held at the Central Library’s
Ring of Knowledge on Wednesday, April 21st at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be
available at 6 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
On April 20th, the Central Library will also be introducing its new downtown,
lunchtime book discussion group, “Literally Speaking,” which will
meet the third Tuesday of every month from 12:10 to 1 p.m. Selected book titles
include a mix of fiction and nonfiction, kicking-off with the Piano Tuner by
Daniel Mason for National Library Week. All are welcome, and participants are
encouraged to bring their lunch to enjoy during the conversation.
