BOARD OF TRUSTEES RELEASES DRAFT OF NEW, THREE-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN

May 21, 2004 - Buffalo, NY - The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library (B&ECPL) Board of Trustees released a draft of a new, three-year (2004-2007) strategic plan for the Library System at its regular monthly meeting yesterday, announced Board Chair Rebecca Mahoney.
“By providing a venue for education, information, culture and recreation, the B&ECPL directly affects the future of individuals, families and businesses in Erie County ,” said Mahoney. “The planning process provides the foundation for these endeavors and offers direction as the B&ECPL strives to fulfill the community's needs.”
Breaking New Ground: A Blueprint for Strengthening a Community Through Exceptional Library Service reflects the Board-approved Five Year Plan of Service submitted to New York State in 2002 and the current B&ECPL Technology Plans as well as new and ongoing efforts.
The draft will be posted on the B&ECPL website, www.buffalolib.org, and hard copies will be available at all 52 libraries located throughout Erie County . The Board invites feedback from the community. Comments may be submitted electronically through a fillable form located on the Library's website, or in writing to any local library. Submissions will be accepted until July 1, 2004 . In addition, the Board welcomes oral remarks during the public comment portion of its monthly meeting on June 17 th at 4 p.m.
The Board's Planning Committee will meet in early July to review all of the feedback and is expected to transmit its recommendations to the full Board on July 15 th .
