PRESS RELEASESBUFFALO AND ERIE COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY HOSTS HOMELAND SECURITY PROGRAM – June 26th~ Held In Conjunction with Central Library's New Homeland Security Information Center ~June 15, 2004 - Buffalo, NY - The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library (B&ECPL) is presenting “Homeland Security in Western New York” at the Central Library on Saturday, June 26th at 1 p.m. The program features Bill O'Connor , Supervisory Special Agent of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force in Buffalo. Employed by the FBI since 1979, O'Connor will discuss the work of the Task Force in Western New York, including the “Lackawanna Six” case, which brought international attention to the area. This event is free and open to the public. The program is being held in conjunction with the opening of the new Western New York Homeland Security Information Center at the Central Library. With support from New York State Senator Dale Volker, the Western New York Library Resources Council has established Western New York Homeland Security Information Centers at three regional public libraries, including downtown Buffalo's Central Library, Niagara Falls Public Library and Prendergrast Library in Jamestown . The free and publicly accessible centers are designed to educate and inform the public with reliable and accurate information relating to the impact of global terrorism in Western New York. Each Western New York Homeland Security Information Center includes a computer, printer and workstation. The Central Library's center is located in the Business, Science and Technology department on the second floor. Additionally, new print resources have been added to the collection.
