PRESS RELEASESBISTRO BOOKERS CELEBRATES 100th REVIEW - August 3rdJuly 19, 2004 - Buffalo , NY - Bistro Bookers is celebrating its 100th review and 14th anniversary at its August event. The program features former Buffalo News editor Murray Light to discuss his book, From Butler to Buffett: The Story Behind The Buffalo News . Light has worked for the News for 50 years. Starting as a reporter, he worked his way up to Managing Editor, Editor and Vice President and Senior Vice President. Though now retired, he continues to write a weekly commentary column and book reviews. The presentation will be held at Chef's Restaurant, 291 Seneca Street, on Tuesday, August 3rd . Attendees are invited to enjoy free hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar at 5:30 p.m. The presentation begins at 6:15 p.m. Following the review, all are welcome to continue conversation over dinner. Bistro Bookers was founded in 1990 under the creative auspices of Buffalo resident Ann Angelo , library supporter and marketing specialist. Angelo envisioned a different type of book club where reviews took place in downtown restaurants rather than in traditional lecture halls or library settings. With the additional support of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library and community volunteers, Bistro Bookers held its first review on August 21, 1990 . “After 100 reviews, Bistro Bookers remains dedicated to the good books, good talks and good dining formula,” said Angelo. “We feel that our programs not only promote reading and libraries, but also support the City of Buffalo by offering the public an entertaining, social activity downtown on a traditionally quiet weeknight. Due to the devotion and energy of all involved, Bistro Bookers has made an impact on the community and continues to flourish. A great thank you is extended to all of our supporters as we celebrate this milestone.” Formed originally to present book reviews geared to professionals in the City's business community, Bistro Bookers has expanded to encompass a wider audience. Reviews explore current non-fiction works, covering the issues of politics, history, health, environment, psychology and society as well as business and economics. Fiction from local authors is also periodically examined. Audiences on average of 80 to 100 people listen to a local expert or the author's discussion of the selected title and are then able to ask questions or offer comments. Following the presentation, all are invited to continue the conversation over dinner at the sponsoring restaurant.
