BUFFALO AND ERIE COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY REVAMPS MOBILE LIBRARY OPERATIONS AND INVITES REQUESTS FOR SERVICE
August 3, 2004 - Buffalo , NY - The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library invites community organizations, which have not recently received mobile library service and are interested in receiving regular visits at their location, to submit information to the Library. To be eligible, agencies must meet certain criteria that emphasize service to geographically isolated areas, at-risk youth, senior citizens with limited mobility and people with disabilities.
Mobile libraries can provide programming opportunities and a variety of materials, including books, magazines, DVDs and music as well as bestselling and large print titles. During the summer, all vehicles are being upgraded to include real-time access to the B&ECPL computer network, online Catalog and other electronic services. A new schedule with regular weekly visits will begin in the fall of 2004.
“The B&ECPL has recently completed a year-long study that examined mobile library service and identified means of managing escalating costs while sustaining and, in some ways, improving services to target audiences,” said Director Michael C. Mahaney . “This retooling will allow us to reach those community members most in need of resources in the most efficient and effective way possible.”
To be considered for the fall schedule, individuals may call Claudia Yates at 858-7160 or submit a request form located on the library's website, www.buffalolib.org. Each request will be reviewed under the established criteria and in light of available resources.
