This proposal cuts more than $19 million from the Library System's operating budget and necessitates the closing of all 52 public libraries in Erie County , effective January 1, 2005. Under Erie County 's Proposed 2005 Red Budget:
“These dates represent the stark reality our community faces if we are forced to shut down due to a lack of funding support,” said B&ECPL Director Michael C. Mahaney. “The services, resources, technology and assistance library patrons have come to value and rely upon will be completely out of reach. We urge residents to voice their concerns to their State and County legislators in the hopes they can work together to find a solution.” For more information, call 858-8900 or visit www.buffalolib.org.
