PRESS RELEASES“LITERALLY SPEAKING” BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP ANNOUNCES 2005 SCHEDULE~ First Program Features The Secret Life of Bees on January 18th ~January 6, 2005 - Buffalo, NY - The Central Library's lunchtime book discussion group, “Literally Speaking,” has released its 2005 schedule. The group meets the third Tuesday of every month from 12:10 to 1 p.m. in the library's Central Meeting Room. All are welcome, and participants are encouraged to bring their lunch to enjoy during the conversation. This month's program will take place on Tuesday, January 18th and will feature the 2002 fiction book, The Secret Life of Bees, written by Sue Monk Kidd. This story of a young girl's search fo her mother in the civil rights era South becomes an exploration of her own identity. Filled with unforgettably eccentric characters, it is a lesson in the transformative power of love found in the most unlikely places. Future selected titles include: Middlesex (fiction, 2002) by Jeffrey Eugenides on February 15th ; Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violet Faith (non-fiction, 2003) by Jon Krakauer on March 15th ; The Ghost Writer (fiction, 2004) by John Harwood on April 19th ; Our Lady of the Forest (fiction, 2003) by David Guterson on May 17th ; Bastard Out of Carolina (fiction, 1992) by Dorothy Allison on June 21st ; The Eyre Affair (fiction, 2002) by Jasper Fforde on September 20th ; and The First Desire (fiction, 2004) by Nancy Resiman on November 15th . In addition, “Literally Speaking” will feature the autobiography, Black Boy , by Richard Wright on October 18th in observance of the centennial anniversary of the Niagara Movement.
