PRESS RELEASESBUFFALO & ERIE COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY ANNOUNCES BOOK TITLES FOR POPULAR SUMMER TRIVIA PROGRAM~ 7th Annual “Battle of the Books” Reading Program Offered for Young Adults ~______________________________________________________________________________ Buffalo , NY -- The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library (B&ECPL) is releasing the titles selected for its 7th annual Battle of the Books summer reading program, which is targeted to all interested students entering sixth through ninth grades in the fall of 2005. Throughout the summer, participants read at least two of six selected book titles and meet with library team members to discuss the selections and practice answering questions. The program culminates on Saturday, August 6th when all participating library teams compete against one another for the championship title. This year's selections include: City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau; Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer; Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie Tolan; The Shadow Club Rising by Neal Shusterman; Sing Down the Moon by Scott O'Dell; and Hoot by Carl Hiaasen. Descriptions of each book, along with additional program details, can be found on www.buffalolib.org. “ Battle of the Books actively involves young adults in reading by combining competition, teamwork, quality literature and fun into one summer long program,” said B&ECPL Director Michael C. Mahaney . “The program has grown tremendously in popularity with nearly 400 Erie County students participating last year.” Interested students may visit or call their participating local library to sign up. Battle of the Books is funded by the Library Foundation of Buffalo & Erie County through the generous funding support of the Beverly Worth Janish Memorial Fund.. |
