PARKSIDE VILLAGE BRANCH LIBRARY
ANNOUNCES CLOSING PROCEDURES

______________________________________________________________________________

Tonawanda , NY -- The Parkside Village Branch Library will be permanently closed as of Saturday, December 24, 2005 . The last day for patrons to borrow materials and pick-up request items will be Monday, November 28 th . After this date, request items will be transferred to the Kenmore Branch, located at 160 Delaware Road , for pick-up. If patrons would prefer a different location, a staff member can redirect requests to another library.

Returns and payment of fines/fees will be available through the last day of service.

“We thank the community for their support, patronage and cooperation during this difficult transition,” stated Interim Director Carol A. Batt . “Residents are urged to visit the Kenmore or Kenilworth Branches in Tonawanda for all of their information and entertainment needs.”

At its November 16 th meeting, the Town of Tonawanda Library Board of Trustees voted to implement closing procedures at the Parkside Village Branch. This facility is one of 16locations that will not receive funding support from the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library (B&ECPL) in 2006. Reductions in the number of libraries, services, open hours, materials and staffing are necessary throughout the B&ECPL in order to bridge the dramatic reduction in 2006 funding the System will receive from Erie County -- more than $7 million less than in 2004.

“The Library Board is working with the Kenmore/Town of Tonawanda Union Free School District and the Town of Tonawanda to develop a viable reuse plan for the Parkside Village building that would house an educational, after-school program targeted to elementary school students,” said Town of Tonawanda Public Library Board President Dr. John Long .
