Buffalo , NY -- The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library (B&ECPL) is celebrating Library Card Sign-Up Month throughout September. This important observance encourages individuals and families to visit their local library and discover all that it has to offer.
“Back to school season is the perfect time for parents and students to become acquainted with their library,” said B&ECPL Director Michael C. Mahaney . “To help students succeed academically, we offer a variety of print and electronic resources, computer workstations featuring software programs and Internet access and knowledgeable librarians to assist in information gathering. And for entertainment, the library has a great selection of fiction titles, graphic novels, magazines, CDs and DVDs. The best part -- for those that live, work or go to school in Erie County , all of these wonderful items can be accessed for free!”
Individuals may visit any B&ECPL facility to sign-up for a library card. Individuals will be asked to complete a library card application and must bring valid identification. Children under the age of 17 need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
As a National Library Card Sign-Up promotion, the B&ECPL is offering a perfect replica of its library card molded in milk chocolate, 70% bittersweet cocoa or milk chocolate with almonds at a special price of $1.25 in September. These gourmet chocolate bars are made especially for the Library by Choco-Logo Confectionary and are available at the Central Library's gift store, Novel Ideas , as well as select branch locations. All proceeds benefit the public libraries.

Observed since 1987, Library Card Sign-Up Month is a time when the American Library Association and libraries across the country engage in promotional campaigns and events to remind communities about the value of libraries and the variety of services and programs they offer to the public.
