PRESS RELEASESLIBRARY'S SEARCH COMMITTEE IDENTIFIES FINALISTS FOR DIRECTOR POSITIONBuffalo, NY -- From a field of approximately 20 applicants for the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library (B&ECPL) Director position, the Library Board of Trustees' Executive Search Committee has selected three individuals as finalists to succeed current Director Michael C. Mahaney, who retires on January 4, 2008. The three are Mary Jean Jakubowski, Deputy Director/Chief Operating Officer of the B&ECPL; Linda Mielke, former Director, Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library, now employed as Senior Project Manager with Library Systems and Services LLC; and Bridget Quinn-Carey, Director, Essex (CT) Library Association. According to B&ECPL Trustee Chair W. Lawrence Buck, the Search Committee is "encouraged by what it heard from the candidates." "We have three experienced and talented finalists, each with a unique skill set that could benefit the Library in different ways," Buck states. The next step in the selection process developed by the Search Committee includes a series of candidate interviews and interactions among various B&ECPL stakeholders during a two-day period Wednesday, January 9 and Thursday, January 10. Capping the January 9 interviews is a public forum that will begin at 6 p.m. in the Mason O. Damon Auditorium at the Central Library, 1 Lafayette Square. The session will be modeled on presidential debates, where all three candidates appear on stage and respond to prepared questions, read by a moderator. Members of the audience will have the opportunity to submit questions in writing. The moderator will review each for appropriateness and will read submitted questions to the candidates after all prepared questions are completed. Staff, library trustees, public officials, the media, union representatives and the general public are invited to participate in the forum. -30- |
