POTTER FEST 2007 SWEEPS THE CENTRAL LIBRARY -- July 24th
Concert with National Act: HARRY & THE POTTERS!
Buffalo, NY – Celebrating Potter mania following the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on July 21st, the Central Library will host Potter Fest 2007 on Tuesday, July 24th. This special event features national act Harry and the Potters performing live rock music inspired by the hugely popular books and films. From Boston, Massachusetts, the band is visiting 34 states on its summer tour as well as venues in Canada to satisfy its large fan base. Also appearing in the Mason O. Damon Auditorium are Draco and the Malfoys and The Whomping Willows. The featured bands believe in celebrating reading and literature through rock and roll music. Tickets are only $5 for this all ages show and can be purchased at the Central Library’s Borrower Services Department. Ticket quantities are limited and are based on a first come, first served basis. All proceeds benefit Buffalo and Erie County Public Library youth programs and services.
In addition, the Central Library is hosting a number of free, pre-concert Potter activities all afternoon on the 24th. From 1 to 3:30 pm, a screening of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will be shown in the Ring of Knowledge. A program featuring Harry Potter’s Owls with Hawk Creek Wildlife Center will entertain all ages in the Central Meeting Room. Event times are 1:30 to 2 pm or 2:30 to 3 pm. Advance registration is required for these sessions, and reservations can be made by calling 858-8900. Children ages five to 10 will enjoy Harry Potter Bingo from 4 to 5 pm in the West Room, and young adults ages 10 to 18 will test their knowledge with Wizards’ Wheel Trivia from 4 to 5 pm in the Ring of Knowledge. Throughout the afternoon, Potter Fest attendees can uncover clues throughout the library for a chance to win a prize in the Who’s Who in Harry Potter contest as well as visit each reference desk to guess the number of jarred jelly beans in the Sorcerer’s Stone Guessing Game. For parents and younger children (ages four to 10) not attending the concert, entertainment and crafts will be offered in the West Room and Children’s Room from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
