LIBRARY APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR

Buffalo, NY -- At its regular monthly meeting on January 24th, the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library Board of Trustees voted in favor of the appointment of Bridget Quinn-Carey as the next Director of the metropolitan Library System serving a population of 950,000. Quinn-Carey expects to assume her post on March 3rd.
Quinn-Carey, a native of Bellport, New York, characterizes herself as an "optimist at heart" and says she is looking forward to guiding the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System beyond the setbacks of the last few years. "B&ECPL has weathered some storms in recent years, but with strategy and stamina, it now appears primed to regain a position of greatness. Working with staff, board(s), and community partners, I hope to build on recent successes to help B&ECPL achieve its potential as a model public library system," she said.
B&ECPL Chairman W. Lawrence Buck expressed his wholehearted endorsement of the appointment. "Ms. Quinn-Carey brings intellect, energy and infectious enthusiasm to the Library. She represents our next generation of visionary leadership."
Quinn-Carey, who will leave her post as Director of the Essex Library Association in Essex, Connecticut in mid-February, is eager to "hit the road" and visit each library within the system, as well as meet with local officials regarding the library's funding. "My biggest priority from day one will be to explore the various funding opportunities available to the B&ECPL," she said.
Quinn-Carey received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from SUNY Binghamton and earned her Master of Library Science Degree from St. John's University. Her first year's salary will be $107,500.
