Meeting Room, capacity 75. Black and white copies are available at 15 cents each and color copies are available at 50 cents each.

August 2 • Communication Nation Did you ever wonder if bugs talk? Find out what senses bugs use to communicate with one another. Use your senses of smell, touch, and sound to "talk" with an insect from your clan.
August 9 • Friend or Foe?
Do bugs bug you? Find out which bugs are helpful and which bugs are harmful. You may think twice about squishing that ant on the sidewalk this summer!
August 16 • Bug Jeopardy
Show off your knowledge! Answer questions about the amazing world of bugs. Win prizes!

Wordflight

The new monthly poetry series, Wordflight, returns to the Crane Branch of the Buffalo and Erie County Library at 633 Elmwood Avenue.

  • This series features local poets and slots for open readers. Writers from the community, whether novice, emerging, or established, are invited to participate. Light refreshments will be served after the reading.
  • The upcoming reading, titled "Flaming June" (a reference to the redhead in the famous Frederic Leighton Pre-Raphaelite painting of the same name), will feature poets Jennifer Campbell and Nava Fader on Monday, June 9, 2008, from 7 - 8:30 (note new time.) Sign up for open readings begins at 6:45.

Jennifer Campbell received a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from Buffalo State and is currently an English Professor at Erie Community College North. Her poetry has been published in A Hudson View Poetry Digest, Earth's Daughters, Skyline Magazine, The Buffalo News, and Artvoice. Her work has also been featured on www.PoetExpress.com and www.poetz.com. In 2006, she won second place in ByLine Magazine's "New Talent Poetry Contest" and received an honorable mention in Skyline Magazine's "Winter Poetry Contest." Her chapbook, The Many Colors of Sound , was released in 2007. She has work forthcoming in two anthologies featuring Western New York writers and an anthology called Mourning Sickness. She recently joined the editorial collective of Earth's Daughters magazine.

Nava Fader, an elementary school librarian, attended SUNY at Buffalo's Poetics Program, writing her master's thesis on Adrienne Rich. She has been published in No Tell Motel, Nedge, Muse Apprentice Guild, FourSquare, The Seneca Review, Shampoo, Moria, Womb, sidereality, Bird Dog, and seconds. She also has a poem in Earth's Daughters Magazine issue #72, "Splinters and Fragments."
