What's Special About the Newstead Public Library
The Newstead Public Library is located in the heart of the village of Akron. We are just a short walk from the historical Octagon House and village shops. At the Library you will always be greeted with a smile and a helpful hand. Many people doing genealogical research use our microfilm collection of local Akron newspapers, dating back to 1878. For the charm and feel of a hometown library, stop in and visit the Newstead Public Library.

Friends of the Library
We have a very supportive Friends of the Library group that sponsors a used book sale in the Spring and Fall. There are three ways to become involved as a Friend: (1) as a member, (2) as a donor, and/or (3) as a volunteer. Please contact the Newstead Public Library for more information on how to become involved.

Recycling Paper Earns Money for the Library

You will now find a bright yellow and green Abitibi Paper Retriever Recycling Bin in the rear parking lot of the Newstead Public Library. Please drop off your newspapers, magazines, shopping catalogs, old mail, shredded papers, office papers, school papers and envelopes in the recycling bin. Items not accepted are cardboard, cereal/soda cartons, food wrap/ containers, tissue products, phone books, plastic or glass. Did you know that every year Americans use more than 67 million tons of paper or 580 pounds per person? That is a lot of paper! Please bring your recyclable paper to the yellow and green bin.
