175 Years of Libraries in Buffalo & Erie County

Over its long and distinguished history of supporting, educating and entertaining the citizens of our community, the Library has remained a resilient anchor throughout explosive growth, wars, industrial decline, and economic uncertainty. Anne Conable of the Library’s Development & Communications Department discusses the stories behind the Library as Buffalo’s first cultural organization and “mother of culturals,” a tradition of entrepreneurial innovation, devoted staff and generous donors, and several of the Library’s “heroes.”
