Public invited to reception for 47- year veteran of Library System
Annette M. Gernatt, who has served as library director at the Hulbert Library of the Town of Concord, will retire at the end of the week after 30 years of service. A community reception, free and open to the public, will be held on Friday, August 30 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Library, located at 18 Chapel Street in Springville. Erie County Legislator John Mills will read a proclamation honoring Ms. Gernatt’s dedication and leadership in the community. Legislator Mills will also make a check presentation to the Library with funds raised through his annual Hot Dog Roast and Bake Sale.
Ms. Gernatt joined the staff of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System in 1966 as a clerk typist for the Bookmobile. She became library director in Concord in 1983, received her Master’s Degree in Library Science in 1997 and received a community service award from the American Legion Post #431 in 1999. Having seen many advances over the years in the way libraries provide access to information, Annette Gernatt says she most enjoys introducing children to reading through story times and special programs. She added that while technology now plays a key role with online catalogs and databases, free computer classes and Wi-Fi capabilities, books will always be important to her.
