Library System Director Mary Jean Jakubowski had two favorite reads in 2012. The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown and The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers.
”The Weird Sisters is quirky, funny and sweet. And of course it is a librarian who plays a significant role in helping the sisters find their way in life,” said Ms. Jakubowski.
The Yellow Birds was written by a veteran of the Iraqi War. “In the story there is a powerful reflection of friendship, bravery and sacrifice for both the soldiers and their families. It will draw you in and leave you wrought with emotion.” She added: “I would highly recommend each of these books but for very different reasons. If you are looking for light and airy reading try The Weird Sisters, for a book with much more intensity and raw emotion, definitely checkout The Yellow Birds.”
