We are doing something a bit different this year for
Take Your Child to the Library Day.
We are bringing the event to you!
This year we are celebrating community, family, and literacy with a Virtual Indoor Winter Campout. Children's Librarian Ms. Susan will be your camp counselor for the day! Pick up your "camping" kit from the Central Library starting February 6th, while supplies last. Contents include a winter scavenger hunt, supplies to make a woodland friend necklace, ideas to set up a blanket fort, a book to read, a campout snack, and directions to turn your paper bag into a backpack. Whew! It's gonna be a busy day!
If you are unable to pick up a kit, no worries! Read on for campfire stories and songs, as well as how-to videos that are easy to replicate at home. Printables, including the scavenger hunt, are also available below!
Come Sit by the Fire:
Build an Indoor Pillow Fort or Blanket Tent
Now that we have a fire -- let's set up camp! Here are some great ideas to help you to create your own tent or fort with stuff around your house!
Nice job setting up your camp site! Let's gather together for stories and a song:
A Silly Campfire Story:
Let's Sing a Song: The Other Day-- I Met a Bear!:
A (Sort Of) Scary Campfire Story: (Parents may want to listen first and decide if this is too creepy for your child)
Grownups -- what are some of your favorite camp stories and songs? Now is the perfect time to share them with your little campers!
Let's Get Up and Go
Now that we've relaxed and told stories around the fire, let's go on an adventure:
