Ongoing Fall Events

  • Book Babies - Tuesdays @ 11:30am from September 11 to October 16.  For newborns to 21/2 year olds.  Join us for rhymes, songs and stories!  Please register.
  • Toddler Time - Tuesdays @ 10:30am from September 11 to October 16.  For ages 21/2 to 31/2.  Treat your toddler to some songs and stories!  Toddlers must bring an adult lap to sit on.  Registration required.
  • Preschool Story Time - Thursdays @ 10:30am from September 13 to October 18.  For ages 31/2 to 51/2.  Prepare your child for school!  We'll be doing stories, games and crafts!  Please register.

 

  • Teen Movie Night: featuring "Rear Window" - Monday, October 15 @ 6:30pm.  For ages 11-17.  Join us for a thrilling evening featuring Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window."  Snacks will be provided!  Please register.
  • Elma Book Club - Wednesday, October 17 @ 6:30pm.  This month's book club selection is Ink and Bone by Lisa Unger.  All welcome to this fun and lively gathering.  Light refreshments will be served.  Please register.
  • Should I Turn Things Over to My Children? Joint Accounts, Life Estates, & Powers of Attorney - Thursday, October 18 @ 2:00pm.  For seniors, aged 55+.  Join us for a free lecture presented by Valerie L. Stanek, Esq., certified financial planner & attorney at law, and in conjunction with University Express.  Older adults are often encouraged to turn control of a house or accounts over to children or other family members & assign powers of attorney as strategies in their estate and financial planning.  These techniques can be effective if used correctly, but they could cause serious harm, including loss of important tax advantages.  We’ll discuss advantages of these tools, as well as potential problems that can arise.  Sign up by stopping in or by calling 652-2719.
  • Sit, Stay...Read! - Saturday, October 20 @ 11:00am to 12:30pm.  For kids ages 5 and up.  Sign up for a 15-minute reading session with a specially-trained therapy dog!  Paws for Love will be here with some furry friends for this kid-friendly reading program.  Registration required.
  • Halloween Lego Party! - Saturday, October 20 @ 1:00pm.  For ages 6-12.  Join us for some lego-building fun!  Kids are welcome to wear Halloween costumes!  Please register.
  • Adult Coloring - Monday, October 22 @ 6:30pm.  For ages 18+.  Join us at the Elma Public Library for a relaxing and fun evening of coloring and creativity.  All coloring materials will be provided.  Registration required.
  • Elma Cooks! Elma Public Library Cookbook Club - Wednesday, October 24 @ 6:00pm.  Join us for our monthly cookbook club!  Meet fellow foodies, cookbook enthusiasts and wonderful people who will enrich your culinary interests.  This month's cookbook is The Complete Mediterranean Cookbook by America's Test Kitchen.  Sign up by stopping in or by calling 652-2719.
  • A Whisper of Bones - Thursday, October 25 @ 2:00pm.  For seniors, aged 55+.  Join us for a free lecture presented by Dr. Roseanne Higgins, author and Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at SUNY Buffalo, and in conjunction with University Express.  The Erie County Poorhouse, Hospital, and Insane Asylum were located on the grounds of what is now the SUNY Buffalo Main Street Campus.  In 2012, infrastructure work brought about the need for excavation of skeletal remains on the site.  Learn what the team of archaeologists from UB uncovered, and what skeletal analysis can tell us about the lives of people at the Poorhouse.  Sign up by stopping in or by calling 652-2719.
  • Computer Class: Kindle Fire Basics - Saturday, October 27 @ 1:00 – 3:00pm – Pre-registration required.
  • Checkers presents "A Spooky but Silly Halloween Safety Show!" - Monday, October 29 @ 6:30pm.  Join us for fun family-friendly entertainment with a special message for Halloween!  We'll have magic, comedy, juggling and more!  Kids are welcome to wear costumes.  Please call or stop in to register.   

 

  • The Hubbard Effect: "It's all Elbert's fault! - Thursday, November 1 @ 2:00pm.  For seniors, aged 55+.  Join us for a free lecture presented by Charles Facklam, and in conjunction with University Express.  Elbert Hubbard's humanist philosophy was the force guiding both Darwin Martin and William Heath, the primary administrators of the immensely successful Larkin Company at the turn of the 20th century.  We'll examine Hubbard's creative architectural genius and the relationships he had with Darwin Martin, William Heath and Frank Lloyd Wright.  Please call or stop in to register.
  • Nature Play - Saturday, November 3 @ 1:00pm.  For ages 6-10.  Discover nature in this fun filled program!  Participants will get to explore various aspects of Buffalo's nature, create their own collage, and play games all without leaving the library!  This program is designed to bring nature into the library, so kids will get to explore regardless of their location!  Please register by calling 652-2719 or by stopping in.
  • Computer Class: eBooks & eReaders - Monday, November 5 @ 6:30 – 9:00pm – Pre-registration required.
  • An Unbiased Explanation of Medicare Part D from a Pharmacist - Thursday, November 8 @ 2:00pm.  For seniors, aged 55+.  Join us for a free lecture presented by Frank Pietrantoni, Wegmans Pharmacist, and in conjunction with University Express.  Most Medicare Part D classes are taught by carriers that sell Medicare Part D programs.  This class will take an unbiased approach that discusses the background of the program, the basics of Part D costs and copays, and strategies for lowering drug costs.  Please call or stop in to register.
  • "Holiday Parade" - Wednesday, November 14 @ 6:30pm.  For children in grades K-3.  Join us for Thanksgiving stories, games and crafts!  Please register by calling 652-2719 or by stopping in.
  • Elma Lego Club - Saturday, November 17 @ 1:00pm.  For ages 6-12.  Join us for some lego-building fun!  Bring a friend!  Please register.
  • Elma Book Club - Wednesday, November 21 @ 6:30pm.  This month's book club selection is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon.  All welcome to this fun and lively gathering.  Light refreshments will be served.  Please register.
  • Adult Coloring - Monday, November 26 @ 6:30pm.  For ages 18+.  Join us at the Elma Public Library for a relaxing and fun evening of coloring and creativity.  All coloring materials will be provided.  Registration required.

 

  • Graham Cracker Houses! - Saturday, December 1 @ 10:30am, 11:30am & 12:30pm.  For all ages!  Back by popular demand, build a festive graham cracker house for the holidays!  Supplies will be provided free of charge, sponsored by the Friends of the Elma Public Library.  Sign up for one of three sessions listed above.  Registration begins November 3rd.  Space is limited and spots fill up quickly!

  • Dragons & Unicorns - Wednesday, December 5 @ 6:30pm.  For ages 3-6.  What's your favorite: dragons or unicorns?  With this program, you don't have to choose!  Come celebrate your favorite fantastic beasts at the library.  Create a dragon's egg and decide what type of dragon you'll hatch!  Make some unicorn slime to take home!  We'll have stories, games and a dance party!  Please register.
  • Computer Class: Book a Technology Trainer - Friday, December 7 @ 1:00 – 4:00pm – Pre-registration required.
  • Teen Night: Christmas Creations - Monday, December 10 @ 6:30pm.  Ages 11-17.  Join us at the Elma Library for a night of fun and festive creativity!  Build something neat for the holidays.  The best design wins a prize!  Supplies will be provided.  Registration required.

  • Elma Lego Club - Saturday, December 15 @ 1:00pm.  For ages 6-12.  Join us for some lego-building fun!  Bring a friend!  Please register.

Book Sale Donations

Gently used books in good condition will be accepted during library hours.  Please no text books, Reader's Digests, encyclopedias, VHS tapes, or cassette tapes.  Donate used books at the Elma Library, at the corner of Bowen & Rice Road or call 652-2719.
