Ongoing Summer Events

  • Kaleidoscope Reading Group - Tuesdays @ 12:30pm on July 10, 24 & 31 and August 14, 21 & 28.  No matter what your reading level, join us for a group read and discussion of the popular "Who Was...?" book series.  Sign up by stopping in or by calling 652-2719.

 

  • Sit, Stay...Read! - Saturday, August 18 @ 11:00am to 12:30pm.  For kids ages 5 and up.  Sign up for a 15-minute reading session with a specially-trained therapy dog!  Paws for Love will be here with some furry friends for this kid-friendly reading program.  Registration required.
  • Explore & More presents "South African Dolls" - Wednesday, August 22 @ 2:00pm.  Ages 6-12.  Inspired by beautiful South African creations, children will make their own beaded dolls to take home!  Space is limited.  Registration required.
  • Red Cross Blood Drive - Friday, August 24 @ 11:00am-3:00pm.  The American Red Cross will be here at the Elma Library from 11:00am to 3:00pm.  If you are interested in donating, please call 652-2719 or stop in at the library to sign up for an available time slot.
  • Adult Coloring - Monday, August 27 @ 6:30pm.  For ages 18+.  Join us at the Elma Public Library for a relaxing and fun evening of coloring and creativity.  All coloring materials will be provided.  Registration required.

 

  • Buffalo's Early Musical History - Monday, September 10 @ 6:30pm.  Join us as we explore Buffalo's 19th century music scene, followed by a musical demonstration by Mark Jones.  No need to register.
  • Computer Class: Book a Technology Trainer - Thursday, September 13 @ 1:00 – 4:00pm – Pre-registration required. 
  • Sit, Stay...Read! - Saturday, September 15 @ 11:00am to 12:30pm.  For kids ages 5 and up.  Sign up for a 15-minute reading session with a specially-trained therapy dog!  Paws for Love will be here with some furry friends for this kid-friendly reading program.  Registration required.
  • Teen Painting Party! - Monday, September 17 @ 6:30pm.  For ages 13-17.  Grab some friends and join us at the Elma Public Library for a painting party!  All art supplies will be provided.  Please register by calling 652-2719 or by stopping in at the library.
  • Elma Book Club - Wednesday, September 19 @ 6:30pm.  This month's book club selection is Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah.  All welcome to this fun and lively gathering.  Light refreshments will be served.  Please register.
  • Elma Lego Club - Saturday, September 22 @ 1:00pm.  For ages 6-12.  The theme for September is "Create What You Like".  Join us for some lego-building fun!  Bring a friend along!  Please register.
     
  • Adult Coloring - Monday, September 24 @ 6:30pm.  For ages 18+.  Join us at the Elma Public Library for a relaxing and fun evening of coloring and creativity.  All coloring materials will be provided.  Registration required.
  • Elma Cooks! Elma Public Library Cookbook Club - Wednesday, September 26 @ 6:00pm.  Join us for our monthly cookbook club!  Meet fellow foodies, cookbook enthusiasts and wonderful people who will enrich your culinary interests.  This month's cookbook is Patricia Heaton's Food for Family and Friends.  Sign up by stopping in or by calling 652-2719.

 

  • The Mediterranean Diet - Thursday, October 11 @ 2:00pm.  For seniors, aged 55+.  Join us for a free lecture presented by Jennifer Johnson, health promotion coordinator for Blue Cross Blue Shield and in conjunction with University Express.  The media and medical communities tout the Mediterranean diet as the way to go.  What is it and how can you incorporate it into your lifestyle?  Sign up by stopping in or by calling 652-2719.
  • Should I Turn Things Over to My Children? Joint Accounts, Life Estates, & Powers of Attorney - Thursday, October 18 @ 2:00pm.  For seniors, aged 55+.  Join us for a free lecture presented by Valerie L. Stanek, Esq., certified financial planner & attorney at law, and in conjunction with University Express.  Older adults are often encouraged to turn control of a house or accounts over to children or other family members & assign powers of attorney as strategies in their estate and financial planning.  These techniques can be effective if used correctly, but they could cause serious harm, including loss of important tax advantages.  We’ll discuss advantages of these tools, as well as potential problems that can arise.  Sign up by stopping in or by calling 652-2719.

  • A Whisper of Bones - Thursday, October 25 @ 2:00pm.  For seniors, aged 55+.  Join us for a free lecture presented by Dr. Roseanne Higgins, author and Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at SUNY Buffalo, and in conjunction with University Express.  The Erie County Poorhouse, Hospital, and Insane Asylum were located on the grounds of what is now the SUNY Buffalo Main Street Campus.  In 2012, infrastructure work brought about the need for excavation of skeletal remains on the site.  Learn what the team of archaeologists from UB uncovered, and what skeletal analysis can tell us about the lives of people at the Poorhouse.  Sign up by stopping in or by calling 652-2719.

Book Sale Donations

Gently used books in good condition will be accepted during library hours.  Please no text books, Reader's Digests, encyclopedias, VHS tapes, or cassette tapes.  Donate used books at the Elma Library, at the corner of Bowen & Rice Road or call 652-2719.
