“Judy Summer Concert Series” begins April 2 with Buffalo Chamber Players

Free Noon Hour Concert series @ Central Library Auditorium

Five, free noon hour concerts begin next Wednesday, April 2 and run through June in the downtown Central Library Auditorium, 1 Lafayette Square. Named in honor of the late Judy Summer, a Library System Trustee and former Kenmore school teacher, the concerts feature the region’s finest musicians, singers and critically-acclaimed performing groups.

Wednesday, April 2 - BUFFALO CHAMBER PLAYERS - Formed in 2007 by Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra violist Janz Castelo, this critically acclaimed ensemble is known for redefining “chamber music.”  Not to be missed!

Thursday, April 10 - CHARLES REEDY JAZZ QUINTET of the Colored Musicians Club – Charles Reedy started playing at the historic Colored Musicians Club in 1947 and has performed with many local greats, including legendary saxophonist Spider Martin, pianist Al Tinney, C.Q.Price Big Band, CMC Jazz All-Stars Band, and the George Scott Big Band.

Friday, April 25 - BUFFALO STATE CHAMBER MUSIC ENSEMBLES - Small performing groups such as the woodwind, brass, and string ensembles give students from Buffalo State College the opportunity to explore the wealth of repertoire by Mozart, Villa-Lobos, Beethoven, Lennon-McCartney, Nelhýbel and Bach. Perfection and creativity at its best!

Wednesday, May 7 - BUFFALO GAY MEN’S CHORUS - The Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus is dedicated to producing vocal music of high quality in the rich tradition of men’s choral singing. They sing to create harmony as they celebrate pride in the community and in themselves. Come hear music sung from the heart.

Friday, June 13 - AMHERST SAXOPHONE QUARTET - Buffalo’s own, ASQ, a four-member sax ensemble who have recorded vintage pop, ragtime and early jazz numbers. They’ll get you dancin’ in your seats!

All programs begin at 12 noon, run approximately one hour and are free and open to the public.  Find more information here: http://bit.ly/1lwr57s.  Additional concerts and a lecture may be added to the Judy Summer Concert Series.
