On Friday, December 2, 2016, the downtown Central Library will play host to “Celebrating Our Milestones: 180 Years of Books, History & Community” fundraising Gala.  Over 200 guests are expected to attend and will help to raise funds for children’s programs in all 37 Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries and the Library’s Rare Books and Special Collections.

Longtime Library supporter and community leader Wayne D. Wisbaum will receive the inaugural Grosvenor (pronounced Grove –nerr) award – a crystal medallion, for his ongoing philanthropic work on behalf of local libraries.  (See attached photo.)

A Senior Partner in the Buffalo law firm of Kavinoky Cook LLP; Mr. Wisbaum is a Trustee of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System, Vice Chairman of the Library Foundation and Commissioner of Rare Books for Erie County. The legacy of Chauncey Hamlin (1881-1963), who was the leading civic benefactor responsible for obtaining the 197 books known as the Milestones of Science Collection, will be honored at the Gala with Hamlin descendants being acknowledged.
