NEW! Citizen Science Kit: Exploring Biodiversity- Stop by the circulation desk and inquire about checking out our new citizen science kit on exploring biodiversity. Are you interested in science? Want to get involved in research that gets used by real scientists? Check out our Exploring Biodiversity kit, containing everything you need to observe local flora and fauna in real time and record your observations! The Exploring Biodiversity kit may only be checked out with an Adult library card, but the research can be done by anyone in the family! This kit is available for a one week checkout with one renewal, as long as no one else has it on hold. Holds may be placed over the phone with your library card number, or in person at the circulation desk.

Citizen Science Kit: Observing Pollinators- Stop by the circulation desk and inquire about checking out our new citizen science kit on observing pollinators. Are you interested in science?   • Knitting & Crochet Circle-  Mondays from 1:30-3:00 PM (in-person program).  Space will be limited. - Meetings will take place outside the library on Monday, July 1st and Monday, July 8th.
  • Mission: IGNITE Digital Navigator- Need help with technology, like a computer, smartphone, or tablet? Have questions about using email or the Internet? Drop by and let a Mission: Ignite Digital Skills Trainer answer your questions! Open hours are July 1st, 2nd, and 8th and August 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th, 26th and 27th from 4pm-8pm.   • West Seneca Public Library Discards Book Sale- The library will be holding a discarded book sale in the Makerspace from Wednesday, June 26th through Tuesday, July 9th. The sale will take place during the library's open hours- please note, we will be closed July 4th in recognition of Independence Day. Books, DVDs, CDs, and more will be available for purchase! You will be able to buy by the bag, or make individual purchases. Materials will be added to the sale throughout the two week period. Prices are $1 per bag or $0.25 per item.

  • Independence Day Story Time- We will be having an Independence Day themed story time on Wednesday, July 3rd at 11am! Space will be limited and registration is required. Please call 716-674-2928 or visit the library to register or for more information.
  • Mission: IGNITE Tech360- Are you struggling with daily computer tasks like using the Internet and sending emails? Learn basic computer skills with a Mission: Ignite Digital Skills Trainer Ruben. Class sessions will take place Saturday, July 6th from 10:30am-2:30pm and Tuesday, July 9th from 3:30pm-7:30pm.  This Tech360 Class is a 2 session training. Participants must attend both sessions for a class to complete the training. Upon successfully completing the training program, participants will receive a FREE DESKTOP COMPUTER, courtesy of Mission: Ignite. You must be 18 or older to attend. Space is limited, so you MUST pre-register at least 7 days before the first session of a scheduled Class. Walk-ins are NOT allowed.   • CSPAN Lab- The Cognition, Speech Perception, and Auditory Neuroscience (CSPAN) Lab of UB will be coming to the West Seneca Public Library to conduct a brief research study! Participation involves completion of a behavioral task on the computer or iPad and takes about 20-30 minutes. Visitors ages 7 and up may be eligible. Parents must be briefly present in order for children to participate! The CSPAN Lab will be at the library on the following dates: July 6th from 12pm - 3pm, July 11th from 5pm-8pm, July 18th from 5pm-8pm, July 25th from 12pm-3pm, and July 27th from 12pm-3pm.
  • The Storybook Cook: Summer Salads with Liz Bauld- Join Storybook Cook Liz Bauld on a summer salad adventure taking place Monday, July 8th at 6:30pm. You will be able to taste and get the recipe for each summer salad she makes during this program. Space will be limited and registration is required.   • Music with Miss Jessica: Yoga Ball Drumming- Tuesday, July 9th at 11am.  For ages 6-11.   Space will be limited and registration is required.  Please stop by the library or call 716-674-2928 to register. 
  • Outdoor Game Day- Join us for fun outdoor games and activities on Wednesday, July 10th and Wednesday, July 24th from 3pm-4pm! Miss Emily will have games, bubbles, music and more for you to enjoy.   • Baby & Me- You and your baby (ages 0-24 months) can join Miss Emily for two separate sessions of Baby & Me! Wednesday, July 10th and Wednesday, July 24th at 10am! This program will take place in the library's Community Room. Space will be limited and registration is required for both sessions- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
  • Toddler Time- Toddlers (ages 2 to 3 1/2) and their parent/guardians are welcome to join Miss Emily at a Toddler Time session on Thursday, July 11th at 11am. Space will be limited and registration is required. Please call 716-674-2928 or visit the library to register or for more information.
  • Battle of the Books Meetings- Patrons entering grades 6-9 who registered for Battle of the Books will have meetings taking place in July on the 11th, 18th, and 25th from 4-5pm. There will be additional meetings in August on the 1st, 8th, and 15th at 4pm. The main battle takes place August 20th at 5pm. If necessary, there will be a tie-breaker round on August 23rd at 2pm.   • Lego Club-  Saturday, July 13th and Saturday, July 27th from 10:30 AM-12 PM and 2 PM-3:30 PM.  For ages 5 to 12. Free build with single-person Lego bins and selectable mini figures.   • Read to a Dog- Sign up for a 15-minute slot to read to a dog on Wednesday, July 17th between 10am and 12pm! The SPCA will bring in a dog for patrons of all ages to read to- we will register patrons in 15 minute time slots. Space will be limited and registration is required.   • Hawk Creek presents Fur, Feathers, and Scales!- Join the Hawk Creek Wildlife Center for a fun program where you'll get to meet different animals! This program will take place in the Community room on Wednesday, July 17th at 2pm. Although this program welcomes patrons of all ages, it is mostly geared to those who are 3 to 10 years old.   • Fuse Beads- Thursday, July 18th from 5pm-6:30pm. Choose a design and create your own decorations with Perler Beads! Recommended for Ages 6+. Children under 6 years old must be attended by an adult.  All materials will be provided by the library.  Space will be limited and registration is required.   • Flag Football with Kids Choice Sports- Join Kids Choice Sports for a fun game of flag football! There are three sessions available: 5-7 year old's can join on Monday, July 29th at 2pm, and 7-12 year old's can join on either Monday, July 29th at 2pm or Tuesday, July 30th at 2pm!   • West Seneca Public Library Book Club- Monday, July 29th at 6:30 PM.   • Bookmark Design Contest- From Saturday, June 29th to Wednesday, July 31st the West Seneca Public Library will be holding a bookmark design contest for students entering preschool through 12th grade. Students can submit as many bookmark designs as they would like, but only one winning design and one runner-up will be chosen from each grade. Winners will receive a prize and a large posterboard version of their design, and we will be distributing printed copies of the thirteen winning designs at our circulation desk while supplies last.

  • Mission: IGNITE Digital Navigator- One-on-one tech assistance with Mission: IGNITE is available by appointment on select Mondays and Tuesdays from 4pm-8pm, and select Saturdays from 10am-2pm at the West Seneca Public Library.   • Battle of the Books Meetings- Students entering 6th-9th grade in the fall of 2024 who have registered and are participating in Battle of the Books will have meetings on Thursday, August 1st, 8th, and 15th! The Battle competition will take place on Tuesday, August 20th at 5pm in the West Seneca Public Library Community Room. Registration is required.   • Hawk Creek: Harry Potter's Owls- Join the Hawk Creek Wildlife Center for a fun visit with some owl friends on Monday, August 5th at 2pm. This program is primarily geared towards ages 8 and up.   • Author Talk: The Illustrated Mark Twain and the Buffalo Express by Thomas J. Reigstad- Join Thomas J. Reigstad as he discusses his book The Illustrated Mark Twain and the Buffalo Express: 10 Stories and Over a Century of Sketches. This event takes place on Monday, August 5th at 6:30pm.   • West Seneca Public Library at the Reading Rover!- Miss Emily will be giving out bookmarks, pencils, and information at the West Seneca School's Reading Rover on Tuesday, August 6th from 5pm-9pm at National Night Out!

  • West Seneca Public Library Book Club-  Monday, August 26th at 6:30 PM. Discussing The Age of AI (And Our Human Future) by Henry Kissinger, et. al. Friends of the West Seneca Public Library

The Friends of the West Seneca Public Library are community members with an interest in supporting the services offered by the library. The Friends also provide funding for books, programs and supplies for children and adults.  

The Friends have an ongoing fundraiser!  Purchase a personalized, hand-carved wooden book which will be displayed in the library over the fireplace!  Full details here.

Next meeting: The next Friends meeting will take place on Monday, August 19th at 6:30pm in the West Seneca Public Library Community Room.

 

 

West Seneca School Yearbook Collection

The West Seneca Public Library now has several West Seneca school yearbooks available for in-library use.  A list of the volumes included in the collection (along with volumes that we do not yet have) can be found HERE.  

A special thank you to the West Seneca Central School District and the West Seneca West alumni for their generous efforts in helping to assemble this collection of yearbooks!
