Computers

The library offers 9 public computers for adults, 3 with scanners, and 2 public computers for children. Adult computers have internet access and Microsoft Office. 1 laptop is available to check out for use while in the library. Computers automatically shut down fifteen minutes prior to closing. 

Printing is 10 cents per black and white page, 25 cents per color page.

Free Wifi is available:   Network: BECPL2    Password: librarywifi

Mobile Printing is available from your phone or other devices.

Copy Machine

8 ½ x 11 size: Black and white copies are 15 cents per page, color copies are 50 cents per page.

8 ½ x 14 size: Black and white copies are 25 cents per page, color copies are 75 cents per page.

The copy machine accepts coins and dollar bills.

Self Service Fax Machine through FaxScan24 - Faxes cost $1.75 for the first page and an additional $1 per page. You can use your credit or debit card or purchase a fax card at the circulation desk.

Study Rooms
The library offers four study rooms which are available first come, first serve. 

Donations
The library accepts material and monetary donations during open hours.  Books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray and jigsaw puzzles are accepted.  Materials must be in good condition. 

Memorial Book Dedications – Honor your loved one by dedicating a book to the library in their memory.  Memorial bookplates are added to the dedicated materials.   Complete our donor form (pdf) and return it to the library for more information.

Friends of the Grand Island Memorial Library(pdf) 

The Friends of GIML support the library through fundraising activities and program assistance.   A 501(c)(3) organization, they organize and run the Book Sales, the Book Store and the Book Sale Shelves on the library main floor. 

  • Download a pdf of the Membership application or pick one up at the library.

  • Book Store Loyalty Program. Friends of the Library members are eligible to receive a loyalty card redeemable for a prize after 10 purchases made from the Book Store or Book Sale Shelves. See the library director for program rules. 

Book Store and Book Sale Shelves

Maintained by the Friends of the Grand Island Memorial Library.

  • The Book Store is available to the public when the meeting room is not in use.  Ask a library staff member for assistance.

  • The Book Sale Shelves are located in the main library next to the circulation desk. Same prices, always available.

  • All proceeds go to The Friends of GIML to support the library.

Library Garden Information(pdf)
The gardens are maintained by the Cinderella Isle Garden Club and our library caretaker.

The Richard Earne Memorial Reading Garden

Richard "Dick" Earne was a Grand Island Memorial Library Trustee for 42 years (1980-2022).

The creation of this garden will fulfill a goal he had of extending the usable library space to include a comfortable outdoor seating area for our patrons to enjoy. At this time, the garden planning includes three phases. Phase I was installed April 2024. Future Phases include expanding the existing garden to create a natural perimeter, an entrance with an arbor, more seating, shading options and possibly a more durable ground surface.

Special thanks to the Grand Island Rotary, Cinderella Isle Garden Club, the Town of Grand Island, the Friends of the Grand Island Memorial Library and the Grand Island Community for their support on this project.

    Mario Game Night(png) Tuesday September 29, **NEW TIME** from 5 pm - 6 pm. For ages 8-13. Snacks will be provided. Please call the library at 716-773-7124 to register for this event. Walk-ins will be allowed, only if there is space. 

    October:

    October CrAfternoons in the library (png). Stop in on Saturdays from 1 to 4 pm (except Oct 17 - due to Trunk or Treat) to make something with Miss Stefanie. For ages 3-18 (little ones may need adult assistance), no registration required. While supplies last.  

    LEGO Club(png). Saturday October 3 from 1 pm - 2 pm. For ages 4-12.  Join us each month for a LEGO free build. The LEGOs are provided, just bring your imagination!  Registration is NOT required and walk-ins are always welcome. 

    Preschool Story Times with Miss Stefanie(png). Tuesdays October 6, October 13, October 20, & October 27 from 10 am - 11 am. Preschool Story Time is designed to increase early literacy skills and promote independent thoughts and behaviors, through balanced movement and sitting activities and focused story time dialog. Story time concludes with play time to round out the hour. Registration is required. Please call 716-773-7124 or stop at the circulation desk. For children who are ready to begin practicing school appropriate behaviors, ages 3 and up. 

    Toddler Story Times with Miss Stefanie(png). Saturdays October 10, October 24, & October 31 from 10 am - 11 am. (Please note there it no story time on Saturday October 17 due to the Trunk or Treat event). Toddler Story Time is a movement-based story time for naturally curious toddlers. We focus on early literacy skills through a combination of singing, dancing, play, other movement-based activities, and simple story books. Story time concludes with play time to round out the hour. Appropriate for children who like to move and wiggle (roughly 18 mo and up). Registration is required. Please call 716-773-7124 or stop at the circulation desk. 

    Itty Bitty Lap Sit & Story Times with Miss Stefanie(png). Thursdays October 8, October 15, October 22, & October 29, from 10 am - 11 am. Itty Bitty Lap Sit & Story Time is designed for newborns and babies through little ones beginning to run. Designed to introduce little ones (and their adults) to group story time and introduce basic literacy concepts. This story time will feature an interactive book, simple songs and rhymes, and gentle bounces and movements. The story time will be followed by tummy time and play time. Registration is required.     Trunk or Treat (png) Saturday, October 17th Noon-2:00pm, rain or shine. No registration necessary. Join us for safe, family-friendly trick or treating in the parking lot, then come on inside for crafts, a photo booth, and the Friends of the Grand Island Library basket raffle and Booksale.

    Sprouts with Ms. Melissa(png)  This is a special Halloween story time. Costumes are welcome. Friday October 30 @ 10 am. Please join us for a fun story time event for little ones ages 0-5. Class size is limited and we often fill up fast. Please stop in or call the branch during our regular hours to be added to the list. 

    November:

    Feelings Rock(png). Tuesday, November 10 beginning at 10 am with Ms. Paige. Feelings Rock in an interactive music and movement class for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Be ready to dance, jump, spin, and more through guided activities. For children ages 0-5 with parent or caregiver. Registration is required and space is limited. Please call 716-773-7124 during branch hours to sign up. 

    LEGO Club(png). Saturday November 14 from 1 pm - 2 pm. For ages 4-12.  Join us each month for a LEGO free build. The LEGOs are provided, just bring your imagination!  Registration is NOT required and walk-ins are always welcome. 

    Read to a Dog(png). In partnership with the SPCA Serving Erie County. Saturday November 21 in the library. All ages welcome. Registration is required. Participants can sign up for a 20 minute reading slot with one of our certified therapy dog volunteers. Available slots are between 1 -3 pm, please call the branch at 716-773-7124 to sign up. This is a great program for little ones to practice their reading skills while also practicing gentle behaviors with animals, or for adults who are looking for a stress-free break with a furry snuggle buddy.
