    Sit-down, full-color, auto-focus video magnifier unit available for public use in the library (16 levels of magnification).

    Volunteer Opportunities

    Volunteer Policy

    Individuals interested in volunteering at the B&ECPL must fill out a Volunteer Application and a Volunteer Liability Waiver and Release form.  Volunteers under the age of 17 will be designated as Junior Volunteers and must have parental approval to volunteer. 

    Volunteers will be accepted based on the library’s project and programmatic needs matched with the individuals’ qualifications/interests as determined during the selection process.  The library may not accept every volunteer application.  A background check and/or reference checking may be required before any volunteer can begin an assignment.


    Community Room Reservation Requests

    Library Meeting Room Policy

    Community Room Reservation Requests are made online via a link on the Town of West Seneca web site.  West Seneca Public Library events and certain Town of West Seneca meeting functions receive priority for scheduling purposes.

    Beyond these West Seneca Public Library or Town events, the Community Room is intended for use for free public events, workshops, educational classes and meetings.  Documentation naming the Town of West Seneca as additional insured during a meeting/event will be required.  

    A representative of the West Seneca Public Library or Town of West Seneca will respond to the online Community Room Reservation Request as soon as possible.

    Study Room Policy

    The West Seneca Public Library features 5 study rooms available for use during regular library hours.  The rooms are intended for informal individual or small group use and are not to be used for commercial purposes.  Rooms may be booked for up to 2 hours per day.  For more information or to book a time slot, please stop by the library or call us at 674-2928.

      NEW! Citizen Science Kit: Exploring Biodiversity- Stop by the circulation desk and inquire about checking out our new citizen science kit on exploring biodiversity. Are you interested in science? Want to get involved in research that gets used by real scientists? Check out our Exploring Biodiversity kit, containing everything you need to observe local flora and fauna in real time and record your observations! The Exploring Biodiversity kit may only be checked out with an Adult library card, but the research can be done by anyone in the family! This kit is available for a one week checkout with one renewal, as long as no one else has it on hold. Holds may be placed over the phone with your library card number, or in person at the circulation desk.

      Citizen Science Kit: Observing Pollinators- Stop by the circulation desk and inquire about checking out our new citizen science kit on observing pollinators. Are you interested in science? Want to get involved in research that gets used by real scientists? Check out our Observing Pollinators kit, containing everything you need to observe bees, butterflies, and other pollinators in real time and record your observations! The Observing Pollinators kit may only be checked out with an Adult library card, but the research can be done by anyone in the family!       • Knitting & Crochet Circle-  Mondays from 1:30-3:00 PM (in-person program).  Space will be limited.
      • Kids Craft Night- Join us for a fun pipe cleaner flower craft on Wednesday, April 3rd at 2pm in the Makerspace! For kids ages 5-12. Space will be limited. Registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
      • Teen STEM: Popsicle Stick Ferris Wheels- Teens ages 11-17 can join us for a fun STEM program where we will build Ferris Wheels out of popsicle sticks! This program will take place on Thursday, April 4th at 1pm. Space will be limited and registration is required. Please call 716-674-2928 or stop by the library to register or for more information!
      • Jackie Albarella: Container Gardening (in two parts)- Have you ever had trouble gardening in the ground? Join television gardener Jackie Albarella as she explains the ins and outs of container gardening! This two part series will take place on Thursday, April 4th and Thursday, April 18th at 6:30pm in the West Seneca Public Library Community Room. Space will be limited and registration is required.       • Lego Club- Saturday, April 6th and 20th from 10:30 AM-12 PM and 2 PM-3:30 PM.  For ages 5 to 12. Free build with single-person Lego bins and selectable mini figures. Space will be limited and registration is required. Please call 716-674-2928 or visit the library for more information.
      • Independent Preschool Story Time- Kids ages 3-5 can join us for a parent-free story time, at 6pm on Tuesdays. The dates are March 12th, 19th, 26th, and April 9th, 16th, and 23rd! When you sign up it is for all 6 sessions! Please make sure the child will be able to attend each session. Space will be limited. Registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
      • Baby & Me-  You and your baby (ages 0-24 months) can join Miss Emily for six weekly sessions of Baby & Me! Wednesdays at 10am on March 20th, 27th, April 10th, 17th, 24th, and May 1st (final date added after first session was canceled)! If you register, please make sure you and your baby can make it to all 6 sessions. This program will take place in the library's Community Room. Space will be limited and registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
      • Toddler Time- Toddlers ages 2-3 can join us with their parent or guardian on Thursdays at 10am or 11am on March 7th, 14th, 21st and April 11th, 18th, and 25th! When you sign up it is for all 6 sessions! Please make sure you are free to come to each session. Space will be limited. Registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
      • CSPAN LAB- The Cognition, Speech Perception, and Auditory Neuroscience (CSPAN) Lab of UB will be coming to the West Seneca Public Library to conduct a brief research study! Participation involves completion of a behavioral task on the computer or iPad and takes about 20-30 minutes. Visitors ages 7 and up may be eligible. Parents must be briefly present in order for children to participate! The CSPAN Lab will be at the library from 5pm-8pm on Tuesdays on the following dates: April 9th, and April 23rd.
      • Fuse Beads- Thursday, April 18th from 5pm-6:30pm. Choose a design and create your own decorations with Perler Beads! Recommended for Ages 6+. Children under 6 years old must be attended by an adult.  All materials will be provided by the library.  Space will be limited and registration is required.       • Earth Day Craft Station- Stop by our all-day Earth Day craft station on Monday, April 22nd! We will be open from 9am-8pm that day. No registration is required to participate in the Earth Day Craft station!
      • West Seneca Public Library Book Club- Monday, April 29th at 6:30 PM. Discussing Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. Event takes place in the Makerspace.  For more information please contact the West Seneca Public Library at 716-674-2928.  Space will be limited. No food or drink is permitted.
      • Book a Technology Trainer-  Tuesday, April 30th between 10am and 4pm. Need computer assistance? We can help! These free 45-minute sessions are designed to assist with software support or Internet training. Topics include training on the Microsoft Office suite and even how to download books on your tablet or phone! Sessions are on the hour, and registration is required by calling 716-674-2928 or stopping by the library information desk. 

      May 2024

Grab a scavenger hunt log from the circulation desk and look for the characters. Turn in your sheet when you are done to receive a prize!       • Drop-In Star Wars Craft- May the Fourth be with you! Drop in any time between 1:30pm and 3pm on Saturday, May 4th to celebrate Star Wars Day with a fun craft! This all-ages program is open to everyone, but the craft is most appropriate for those 5-12 years old. Supplies will be limited and registration is required.       • Mother's Day Card Craft- Need a Mother's Day card? Stop by the Makerspace on May 7th from 5pm-6pm and create one for Mom, Grandma, an Aunt, or anyone else you would like to celebrate! This all ages event requires registration. Please stop by the library or call 716-674-2928 to register or for more information!

      • Civil War Union Volunteers Fife and Drum Performance- Join Jim Pace at the West Seneca Public Library Community Room on Monday, May 20th at 6:30pm for a musical performance, presented by the Civil War Union Volunteers.       • Teen Escape Room- Teens ages 11-17 can register for our next escape room, taking place on Thursday, May 23rd. There will be a 5pm session and a 6pm session- both sessions will take place in the West Seneca Public Library Makerspace. Space will be limited and registration is required.       Friends of the West Seneca Public Library

      The Friends of the West Seneca Public Library are community members with an interest in supporting the services offered by the library. The Friends also provide funding for books, programs and supplies for children and adults.  

      The Friends have an ongoing fundraiser!  Purchase a personalized, hand-carved wooden book which will be displayed in the library over the fireplace!  Full details here.

      West Seneca School Yearbook Collection

      The West Seneca Public Library now has several West Seneca school yearbooks available for in-library use.  A list of the volumes included in the collection (along with volumes that we do not yet have) can be found HERE.  

      A special thank you to the West Seneca Central School District and the West Seneca West alumni for their generous efforts in helping to assemble this collection of yearbooks!
