Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Policy (pdf)

Individuals interested in volunteering at the B&ECPL must fill out a Volunteer Application (pdf) and a Volunteer Liability Waiver and Release form (pdf).  Volunteers under the age of 17 will be designated as Junior Volunteers and must have parental approval to volunteer. 

Volunteers will be accepted based on the library’s project and programmatic needs matched with the individuals’ qualifications/interests as determined during the selection process.  The library may not accept every volunteer application.  A background check and/or reference checking may be required before any volunteer can begin an assignment.

Community Room Reservation Requests are made online via a link on the Town of West Seneca web site .  West Seneca Public Library events and certain Town of West Seneca meeting functions receive priority for scheduling purposes.

Beyond these West Seneca Public Library or Town events, the Community Room is intended for use for free public events, workshops, educational classes and meetings.  They are available for community groups and local organizations who can provide liability insurance naming the Town of West Seneca as additional insured. The Certificate of Liability Insurance must list the Certificate Holder as the Town of West Seneca, located at 1250 Union Road, West Seneca, NY, 14224.

A representative of the West Seneca Public Library or Town of West Seneca will respond to the online Community Room Reservation Request as soon as possible.

The West Seneca Public Library features 5 study rooms available for use during regular library hours.  The rooms are intended for informal individual or small group use and are not to be used for commercial purposes.  Rooms may be booked for up to 2 hours per day.  For more information or to book a time slot, please stop by the library or call us at 674-2928.

    The West Seneca Public Library recently registered to participate in Neighborhood Forest's free trees initiative! They provide free trees for kids to plant on or near Earth Day. 
     Registration ended on March 15th. We do not have a known pick-up date yet, but will schedule one as soon as we know when the trees will be arriving!

    • Handicraft Club (pdf)-  Join our handicraft club on Mondays from 1:30-3:30pm. We welcome all sorts of handicrafts including knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, and needlework. No food or drink is permitted in the Makerspace.
    • Independent Preschool Story Time Winter/Spring 2026 Twelve Week Session (pdf)-  Preschoolers ages 3-5 years can join Miss Emily on Tuesday nights at 6pm for a 12-week parent/guardian-free story time session. The dates are February 3rd, 10th, 24th; March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th; April 7th, 14th, 21st; May 5th and 12th. Space will be limited and registration is required. Signing up for one session signs the child up for all twelve sessions. Please note, if the parent does not call and the child does not show up 3 times, then they will be removed from the registration list. To register, please visit the library or call 716-674-2928.
    • Baby & Me Winter/Spring 2026 Twelve Week Session (pdf)- On Wednesday, February 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th; March 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th; April 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th at 9:30 or 10:30am, babies ages 0-24 months and their parent or guardian can join Miss Emily for a fun lap-sit story time session. Space will be limited and registration is required. Signing up for one session signs you up for all twelve sessions.     • Book a Technology Trainer (pdf)- Need computer assistance?  We can help!  These free 45 minutes sessions are designed to assist with software support or Internet training. Our next sessions will take place on Tuesday, April 7th between 10am and 4pm. Topics include training on the Microsoft Office suite and even how to download books onto your tablet or phone. Sessions are on the hour, and registration is required by calling 716-674-2928 or stopping by the West Seneca Public Library information desk.
    • Kid's Fuse Beads (pdf)- Thursday, April 9th from 5pm-6:30pm. Choose a design and create your own decorations with Perler Beads! Recommended for Ages 6+. Children under 6 years old must be attended by an adult.  All materials will be provided by the library.  Space will be limited and registration is required.     • Spring Carnival and Easter Egg Hunt (pdf)- Join us for a fun and family-friendly all ages spring carnival! This event will take place on Friday, April 10th from 1pm-3pm.     • Teen Advisory Group (TAG) Meeting (pdf)- Teens can join us on Thursday, April 16th for a Teen Advisory Group (TAG) meeting at 6pm. TAG members will help provide insight on how to better serve teens, help plan and implement programs, meet new people, and gain volunteer hours, experience, and leadership skills.     • New York State Department of Labor Job Fair- Join the New York State Department of Labor for a job fair on Friday, April 17th from 11am-1pm at the West Seneca Public Library! Registration is not required to attend the fair as a job-seeker, but if you would like to participate in the job fair as a business with job openings, please register by visiting https://forms.office.com/g/SCNtUrFqYD
    • Neighborhood Forest Tree Pickup (pdf)- Did you register through the West Seneca Public Library for a free tree from Neighborhood Forest? Pick-up time is here! Stop by the library between 2:30pm and 4:30pm on Wednesday, April 22nd or between 5:30pm and 7:30pm on Thursday, April 23rd to pick up your free tree! You must have registered for a tree online by March 15th. Can’t make either timeframe? We’ll have one final pickup time on Saturday, April 25th during our Friends of the West Seneca Public Library Jewelry Sale! The sale will start at 10am and run until 3pm.
    • Friends of the WSPL Vintage Jewelry Sale (pdf)- Join the Friends of the West Seneca Public Library for another vintage jewelry sale! This fundraiser will feature vintage costume jewelry, and takes place on Saturday, April 25th between 10am and 3pm at the West Seneca Public Library! Cash only!

    • University Express Book Club- Patrons ages 50+ can register to join University Express for a book club meeting on Wednesday, April 29th at 10:30am in the West Seneca Public Library's Makerspace. They will discuss Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon. The moderator will be Debra Erckert. India and Bangladesh are home to an incredible variety of exotic fruits and vegetables, many celebrated for their healing properties and rich nutritional value. In this class, you’ll discover the cultural stories and traditional knowledge behind these foods, and learn how to incorporate them into your everyday meals. This talk will offer tips and recommendations for gardening to benefit both people and wildlife, with a strong focus on using plants native to the Western New York region.  It will cover garden plantings, from containers to large plots, and discuss critters of all sizes from insects to White-tailed Deer, including how to stem nibbling by our wild friends.     • University Express: Buffalo Crime, Romance, and Intrigue (pdf)- People ages 50+ can join University Express instructor Marla Bujnicki on Tuesday, May 12th at 2pm for a program on crime, romance, and intrigue in Buffalo. Crime, romance and intrigue either stand alone or combine to create little known tales about some of Buffalo's more scintillating history. The four stories span decades from the 1880's to the roaring 1920's, all offering glimpses into the city's storied past. Space will be limited and registration is required.     Friends of the West Seneca Public Library

    The Friends of the West Seneca Public Library are community members with an interest in supporting the services offered by the library. The Friends also provide funding for books, programs and supplies for children and adults.  

    The Friends have an ongoing fundraiser!  Purchase a personalized, hand-carved wooden book which will be displayed in the library over the fireplace!  Full details here (pdf).

    Next meeting: The next Friends meeting date is Monday, September 22nd at 6:30pm.

    The West Seneca Public Library now has several West Seneca school yearbooks (pdf) available for in-library use.  A list of the volumes included in the collection (along with volumes that we do not yet have) can be found via the link above.
