    Volunteer Opportunities

    Volunteer Policy (pdf)

    Individuals interested in volunteering at the B&ECPL must fill out a Volunteer Application (pdf) and a Volunteer Liability Waiver and Release form (pdf).  Volunteers under the age of 17 will be designated as Junior Volunteers and must have parental approval to volunteer. 

    Volunteers will be accepted based on the library’s project and programmatic needs matched with the individuals’ qualifications/interests as determined during the selection process.  The library may not accept every volunteer application.  A background check and/or reference checking may be required before any volunteer can begin an assignment.


    Community Room Reservation Requests

    Community Room Reservation Requests are made online via a link on the Town of West Seneca web site .  West Seneca Public Library events and certain Town of West Seneca meeting functions receive priority for scheduling purposes.

    Beyond these West Seneca Public Library or Town events, the Community Room is intended for use for free public events, workshops, educational classes and meetings.  Documentation naming the Town of West Seneca as additional insured during a meeting/event will be required.  

    A representative of the West Seneca Public Library or Town of West Seneca will respond to the online Community Room Reservation Request as soon as possible.

    The West Seneca Public Library features 5 study rooms available for use during regular library hours.  The rooms are intended for informal individual or small group use and are not to be used for commercial purposes.  Rooms may be booked for up to 2 hours per day.  For more information or to book a time slot, please stop by the library or call us at 674-2928.

      Interested in helping your fellow neighbor get through tax season? Volunteer to help with VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance)! This program helps provide tax assistance to eligible tax payers who need help preparing their tax returns! Help is needed in various areas. For more information about volunteering, click here.       • Handicraft Club (pdf)-  Join our handicraft club on Mondays from 1:30-3:30pm. We welcome all sorts of handicrafts including knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, and needlework. Beginners and experts are all welcome!  For more information please contact the West Seneca Public Library, 1300 Union Rd, West Seneca, NY 14224 at (716) 674-2928.  Space will be limited. No food or drink is permitted in the Makerspace.
      • Baby Rave (pdf)- On Tuesday, January 6th at 6pm babies under 24 months and their caregivers can join Miss Emily for a fun Baby Rave! Baby raves teach young children about music and movement through a fun interactive experience! Older siblings will not be allowed in for safety reasons.       • Toddler Foam Art (pdf)- Children ages 2-4 can join Miss Emily on Thursday, January 8th at 10am for a fun toddler foam art program! Space will be limited and registration is required. To register, please visit the library or call 716-674-2928.
      • Lego Club (pdf)-  Saturday, January 10th at 11am. For ages 5 to 12. Free build with single-person Lego bins and selectable mini figures. Space will be limited and registration is required. Please call 716-674-2928 or visit the library to register or for more information.
      • University Express: Let's Paint with Watercolor (pdf)- Patrons age 50+ can join University Express for a session on watercolor painting.       • Kid's Fuse Beads (pdf)- Thursday, January 15th from 5pm-6:30pm. Choose a design and create your own decorations with Perler Beads! Recommended for ages 6 and up. Children under 6 years old must be attended by an adult.  All materials will be provided by the library.  Space will be limited and registration is required.       • Stuffed Animal Sleepover: Session 1 (pdf)- Your stuffie is invited to Session 1 of our Stuffed Animal Sleepover at the library! You can drop off your stuffie at 4pm on Friday, January 16th and then join us for pick up and breakfast at 10:30am on Saturday, January 17th to see what mischief they got up to overnight! You must be able to attend both drop off and pick up. Each stuffie may only attend one Session (both drop off and pick up). Session 2 will take place later in January.       • Teen STEAM: Snowman Balloon Race (pdf)- Teens ages 12-17 can join us on Saturday, January 17th at 1pm for a STEAM-centered Snowman Balloon Race program! Space will be limited and registration is required. To register, please visit the library or call 716-674-2928.
      • Family STEAM: Fake Snow (pdf)- Family members of all ages can join Miss Emily on Tuesday, January 20th at 5:30pm for a STEAM-centered fake snow program!       • Alternative Options to College for Teens (pdf)- Teens can join us on Thursday, January 22nd at 5pm (prior to the TAG meeting) for a review of alternative options to college, presented by Erie 1 BOCES.       • Teen Advisory Group (TAG) Meeting (pdf)- Teens can join us on Thursday, January 22nd for a Teen Advisory Group (TAG) meeting at 6pm. TAG members will help provide insight on how to better serve teens, help plan and implement programs, meet new people, and gain volunteer hours, experience, and leadership skills.       • Stuffed Animal Sleepover: Session 2 (pdf)- Your stuffie is invited to Session 2 of the Stuffed Animal Sleepover at the library!       • Book a Technology Trainer (pdf)- Need computer assistance?  We can help!  These free 45 minutes sessions are designed to assist with software support or Internet training. Our next sessions will take place on Tuesday, January 27th between 10am and 4pm. Topics include training on the Microsoft Office suite and even how to download books onto your tablet or phone. Sessions are on the hour, and registration is required by calling 716-674-2928 or stopping by the West Seneca Public Library information desk.
      • Alphabet BINGO (pdf)- Join us for fun Alphabet BINGO night on Tuesday, January 27th at 5:30pm! Match letters to get BINGO! This program is for ages 2 and up. Space will be limited and registration is required. To register, please visit the library or call 716-674-2928.
      • Seed Swap 2026 (pdf)- Do you have extra seeds? Oldies but goodies? Bring garden seeds that you would like to share or trade with others for free to the Friends of the West Seneca Public Library Seed Swap 2026. The Seed Swap will take place on Saturday, January 31st from 1:30pm-3:30pm. It's okay if you don't have any seeds to swap this year- help yourself to plenty of free leftovers!

      • VITA Tax Assistance (pdf)- Need help filing your taxes? Starting Monday, February 2nd from 1pm-4pm VITA will be holding appointments for free tax assistance on Mondays and Wednesdays at the West Seneca Public Library. Appointments are required and walk-ins will not be accepted. You can make an appointment by calling 2-1-1 or by visiting https://www.freetaxbuffalo.com or scanning the QR code on the flyer. You cannot make an appointment by contacting the library. You must bring the following to your appointment: government ID or driver's license; social security cards are REQUIRED for everyone on the return; all income information including Social Security Statements, interest and dividend; Health Insurance form 1095; day care payment information; IRS Letters Bank Information for Direct Deposit; last year’s tax return; and real estate tax bill. IMPORTANT: You must bring a completed intake form – available at the West Seneca Public Library or on the web at https://freetaxbuffalo.com
      • Journaling 101 with Buffalo Hope COMHPS (pdf)- Join Buffalo Hope COMHPS for a Journaling 101 workshop each Tuesday in February. This program takes place at 3:30pm on February 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th, and is for ages 16 and up. These four free consecutive workshops will help you expand your mental health toolkit!       • Independent Preschool Story Time Winter/Spring 2026 Twelve Week Session (pdf)- Preschoolers ages 3-5 years can join Miss Emily on Tuesday nights at 6pm for a 12-week parent/guardian-free story time session. The dates are February 3rd, 10th, 24th; March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th; April 7th, 14th, 21st; May 5th and 12th. Space will be limited and registration is required. Signing up for one session signs the child up for all twelve sessions. Please note, if the parent does not call and the child does not show up 3 times, then they will be removed from the registration list. To register, please visit the library or call 716-674-2928.
      • Baby & Me Winter/Spring 2026 Twelve Week Session (pdf)- On Wednesday, February 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th; March 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th; April 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th at 9:30 or 10:30am, babies ages 0-24 months and their parent or guardian can join Miss Emily for a fun lap-sit story time session.       Library of Things

      The West Seneca Public Library has a small collection of "things" other than books, DVDs, and CDs, that can be checked out at the desk. These items must be checked out and returned at the West Seneca Public Library's circulation desk. For a list of the things available to checkout, please see the following link!       Friends of the West Seneca Public Library

      The Friends of the West Seneca Public Library are community members with an interest in supporting the services offered by the library. The Friends also provide funding for books, programs and supplies for children and adults.  

      The Friends have an ongoing fundraiser!  Purchase a personalized, hand-carved wooden book which will be displayed in the library over the fireplace!  Full details here (pdf).

      Next meeting: The next Friends meeting date is Monday, September 22nd at 6:30pm.

       

      West Seneca School Yearbook Collection

      The West Seneca Public Library now has several West Seneca school yearbooks (pdf) available for in-library use.  A list of the volumes included in the collection (along with volumes that we do not yet have) can be found via the link above.
