    Volunteer Opportunities

    Volunteer Policy

    Individuals interested in volunteering at the B&ECPL must fill out a Volunteer Application and a Volunteer Liability Waiver and Release form.  Volunteers under the age of 17 will be designated as Junior Volunteers and must have parental approval to volunteer. 

    Volunteers will be accepted based on the library’s project and programmatic needs matched with the individuals’ qualifications/interests as determined during the selection process.  The library may not accept every volunteer application.  A background check and/or reference checking may be required before any volunteer can begin an assignment.


    Community Room Reservation Requests

    Library Meeting Room Policy

    Community Room Reservation Requests are made online via a link on the Town of West Seneca web site.  West Seneca Public Library events and certain Town of West Seneca meeting functions receive priority for scheduling purposes.

    Beyond these West Seneca Public Library or Town events, the Community Room is intended for use for free public events, workshops, educational classes and meetings.  Documentation naming the Town of West Seneca as additional insured during a meeting/event will be required.  

    A representative of the West Seneca Public Library or Town of West Seneca will respond to the online Community Room Reservation Request as soon as possible.

    Study Room Policy

    The West Seneca Public Library features 5 study rooms available for use during regular library hours.  The rooms are intended for informal individual or small group use and are not to be used for commercial purposes.  Rooms may be booked for up to 2 hours per day.  For more information or to book a time slot, please stop by the library or call us at 674-2928.

    NEW! Citizen Science Kit: Observing Pollinators- Stop by the circulation desk and inquire about checking out our new citizen science kit on observing pollinators. Are you interested in science? Want to get involved in research that gets used by real scientists? Check out our Observing Pollinators kit, containing everything you need to observe bees, butterflies, and other pollinators in real time and record your observations! The Observing Pollinators kit may only be checked out with an Adult library card, but the research can be done by anyone in the family! This kit is available for a one week checkout with one renewal, as long as no one else has it on hold. Holds may be placed over the phone with your library card number, or in person at the circulation desk.

    • Knitting & Crochet Circle-  Mondays from 1:30-3:00 PM (in-person program).  Space will be limited. 
    • Preschool Story Time- Kids ages 3-5 can join us for a parent-free story time, Tuesdays at 6pm on September 12th, 19th, and 26th, and October 10th, 17th, and 24th. When you sign up it is for all 6 sessions! Please make sure the child will be able to attend each session. Space will be limited. Registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
    • Toddler Time- Toddlers ages 2-3 can join us with their parent or guardian on Thursdays at 10am or 11am on September 14th, 21st, and 28th and October 5th, 12th, and 19th! When you sign up it is for all 6 sessions! Please make sure you are free to come to each session. Space will be limited. Registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
    • Fuse Beads- Thursday, September 14th from 5pm-6:30pm. Choose a design and create your own decorations with Perler Beads! Recommended for Ages 6+. Children under 6 years old must be attended by an adult.  All materials will be provided by the library.  Space will be limited and registration is required. Masks and social distancing are encouraged.  To register, please visit the library or call 716-674-2928.
    • CSPAN- The Cognition, Speech Perception, and Auditory Neuroscience (CSPAN) Lab of UB will be coming to the West Seneca Public Library to conduct a brief research study! Participation involves completion of a behavioral task on the computer or iPad and takes about 20-30 minutes. Visitors ages 7 and up may be eligible. Parents must be briefly present in order for children to participate! The CSPAN Lab will be at the library on Thursday, September 14th from 5:45pm-8pm; Thursday, September 28th from 5:45pm-8pm; Tuesday, October 3rd from 5:15pm-8pm; Thursday, October 12th from 5:45pm-8pm; and Tuesday, October 17th from 4pm-7pm.
    • Lego Club- Saturday, September 16th, from 10:30 AM-12 PM and 2 PM-3:30 PM.  For ages 5 to 12. Free build with single-person Lego bins and selectable mini figures. Space will be limited and registration is required. Please call 716-674-2928 or visit the library for more information.
    • Kids Craft Night- Join us for a crayon art craft night on Monday, September 18th at 5pm in the MakerSpace! For kids ages 5-12. Space will be limited. Registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
    • Cemetery Symbolism- Thursday, September 21st, at 6:30 PM in the West Seneca Public Library Community Room. Join local historian and taphophile, Laura Fitzgerald, as she shares examples of unique monuments from Western New York and beyond. Space will be limited. Registration is required- please call 716-674-2928 or stop by the library to register
    • Gardenville Neighbors: Remembering the Burchfields with Joan Albarella- Saturday, September 23rd, at 11am in the West Seneca Public Library Community Room. This informal presentation uses Charles Burchfield's Gardenville-inspired artwork as a backdrop to a story-filled PowerPoint presentation based on growing up next door to the famous artist and his family. Space will be limited. Registration is required- please call 716-674-2928 or stop by the library to register
    • Bookmark Making Event- Hosted by the West Seneca Art Society! Join them on Saturday, September 23rd any time between 10am and 2pm to make bookmarks! This event is part of Burchfest. Sign up is not required.
    • WEST SENECA LIBRARY REGISTRATION FOR THIS IS FULL- Erie County Emergency Homecare Kit Handout-  REGISTRATION IS FULL. On September 25th from 5pm-7pm Erie County will be handing out free emergency homecare kits to those who have signed up to receive one. To register and get on the list to receive your free emergency homecare kit, call 716-674-2928 or stop by the West Seneca Public Library circulation desk! These kits include tools and resources to help prepare your household for a weather emergency!
    • Friends of the West Seneca Public Library Meeting- Monday, September 25th at 6:30pm in the library community room. Come learn about (and maybe join!) the Friends of the West Seneca Library!
    • West Seneca Public Library Book Club- Monday, September 25th at 6:30 PM. Discussing The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak. Event takes place in the MakerSpace.  For more information please contact the West Seneca Public Library at 716-674-2928.  Space will be limited. No food or drink is permitted.
    • Book-A-Tech Trainer- Tuesday, September 26th between the hours of 11am and 5pm. Need computer assistance?  We can help!  These free 45 minutes sessions are designed to assist with software support or Internet training.  Topics include training on the Microsoft Office suite and even how to download books onto your tablet or iPhone. Sessions are on the hour, and pre-registration is required by calling 716-674-2928 or stopping by the West Seneca Public Library information desk.
    • Teen STEM Night- Hurricane STEM Challenge on Thursday, September 28th at 6pm in the MakerSpace! Space will be limited. Registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.

    • The Traveling Museum of Memento Mori: The Art of Grieving- Join Amanda Woomer and the Traveling Museum of Memento Mori on Thursday, October 5th from 6pm-7:30pm in the West Seneca Public Library community room! She will be providing a 30 minute presentation on the Art of Grieving before everyone has the opportunity to peruse the objects that were brought in from the museum. We will be painting fake pumpkins for display throughout the library! Pumpkins will be voted on while on display, and prizes will be distributed once a winner is selected! Pumpkins can be brought home once the display is over. Space will be limited. Registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
    • West Seneca Public Library Discards Book Sale- The sale takes place in the Library Makerspace. Books, DVDs, CDs, and more will be available for purchase! You can buy by the bag or purchase individual items! More materials will be added throughout the sale. The book sale runs on Tuesday, 10/17 from 2pm-8pm; Wednesday, 10/18 from 9am-5pm; Thursday, 10/19 from 9am-8pm; Friday, 10/20 from 9am-5pm; and Saturday, 10/21 from 10am-4pm. Bag prices are as follows: $12/bag on 10/17 and 10/18, $10/bag on 10/19, $2/bag on 10/20 and 10/21! If you have any questions please call 716-674-2928 or stop by the library.
    • Buffalo Music Hall of Fame and Three2Go Music Alliance presents: The Business of Music Workshop- Are you in a band? Have you written a song? Do you wonder what's next? Take control of your music career! Learn all about copyright, setting up a music business, managing your band, and getting paid for your work! Join us on Thursday, October 19th at 6:30pm in the West Seneca Public Library Community Room!
    • Halloween Movie Night- Join us for a fun all-ages Halloween movie night on Monday, October 23rd at 5:30pm in the West Seneca Public Library community room. Registration is not required for this event! For more information, please call 716-674-2928.

    Friends of the West Seneca Public Library

    The Friends of the West Seneca Public Library are community members with an interest in supporting the services offered by the library. The Friends also provide funding for books, programs and supplies for children and adults.  

    The Friends have an ongoing fundraiser!  Purchase a personalized, hand-carved wooden book which will be displayed in the library over the fireplace!  Full details here.

    West Seneca School Yearbook Collection

    The West Seneca Public Library now has several West Seneca school yearbooks available for in-library use.  A list of the volumes included in the collection (along with volumes that we do not yet have) can be found HERE.
