    Volunteer Opportunities

    Volunteer Policy

    Individuals interested in volunteering at the B&ECPL must fill out a Volunteer Application and a Volunteer Liability Waiver and Release form.  Volunteers under the age of 17 will be designated as Junior Volunteers and must have parental approval to volunteer. 

    Volunteers will be accepted based on the library’s project and programmatic needs matched with the individuals’ qualifications/interests as determined during the selection process.  The library may not accept every volunteer application.  A background check and/or reference checking may be required before any volunteer can begin an assignment.


    Community Room Reservation Requests

    Library Meeting Room Policy

    Community Room Reservation Requests are made online via a link on the Town of West Seneca web site.  West Seneca Public Library events and certain Town of West Seneca meeting functions receive priority for scheduling purposes.

    Beyond these West Seneca Public Library or Town events, the Community Room is intended for use for free public events, workshops, educational classes and meetings.  Documentation naming the Town of West Seneca as additional insured during a meeting/event will be required.  

    A representative of the West Seneca Public Library or Town of West Seneca will respond to the online Community Room Reservation Request as soon as possible.

    The West Seneca Public Library features 5 study rooms available for use during regular library hours.  The rooms are intended for informal individual or small group use and are not to be used for commercial purposes.  Rooms may be booked for up to 2 hours per day.  For more information or to book a time slot, please stop by the library or call us at 674-2928.

      NEW! Citizen Science Kit: Exploring Biodiversity- Stop by the circulation desk and inquire about checking out our new citizen science kit on exploring biodiversity. Are you interested in science? Want to get involved in research that gets used by real scientists? Check out our Exploring Biodiversity kit, containing everything you need to observe local flora and fauna in real time and record your observations! The Exploring Biodiversity kit may only be checked out with an Adult library card, but the research can be done by anyone in the family! This kit is available for a one week checkout with one renewal, as long as no one else has it on hold. Holds may be placed over the phone with your library card number, or in person at the circulation desk.

      Citizen Science Kit: Observing Pollinators- Stop by the circulation desk and inquire about checking out our new citizen science kit on observing pollinators. Are you interested in science? Want to get involved in research that gets used by real scientists?       • Knitting & Crochet Circle-  Mondays from 1:30-3:00 PM (in-person program).  Space will be limited. '
      • African Drum Workshop- Saturday, February 3 from 2pm-3pm in the West Seneca Public Library Community Room. Patrons ages 6 and up can join us for a fun African Drum Workshop taught by a drummer Teaching Artist from the African American Cultural Center's Dance & Drum Performance Company. Participants will learn the fundamentals of traditional West African drumming, basic African drumming technique, and its connection to modern music. Space will be limited. Registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
      • Independent Preschool Story Time- Kids ages 3-5 can join us for a parent-free story time, at 6pm on January 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th, and February 6th and13th! When you sign up it is for all 6 sessions! Please make sure the child will be able to attend each session. Space will be limited. Registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
      • Baby & Me-  You and your baby (ages 0-24 months) can join Miss Emily for six weekly sessions of Baby & Me! Wednesdays at 10am on January 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st, and February 7th and 14th! If you register, please make sure you and your baby can make it to all 6 sessions. This program will take place in the library's Community Room. Space will be limited and registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
      • Toddler Time- Toddlers ages 2-3 can join us with their parent or guardian on Thursdays at 10am or 11am on January 11th, 18th, and 25th, and February 1st, 8th, and 15th! When you sign up it is for all 6 sessions! Please make sure you are free to come to each session. Space will be limited. Registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
      • Lego Club- Saturday, February 10th and 24th from 10:30 AM-12 PM and 2 PM-3:30 PM.  For ages 5 to 12. Free build with single-person Lego bins and selectable mini figures. Space will be limited and registration is required. Please call 716-674-2928 or visit the library for more information
      • Valentine's Day Card Making- Join Miss Emily on Monday, February 12th from 4pm-5pm in the library Makerspace to create beautiful Valentine's Day cards! This program is for all ages.       • CSPAN LAB- The Cognition, Speech Perception, and Auditory Neuroscience (CSPAN) Lab of UB will be coming to the West Seneca Public Library to conduct a brief research study! Participation involves completion of a behavioral task on the computer or iPad and takes about 20-30 minutes. Visitors ages 7 and up may be eligible. Parents must be briefly present in order for children to participate! The CSPAN Lab will be at the library from 5pm-8pm on Tuesdays on the following dates: February 13th, February 27th, March 12th, March 26th, April 9th, and April 23rd.
      • Fuse Beads- Thursday, February 15th from 5pm-6:30pm. Choose a design and create your own decorations with Perler Beads! Recommended for Ages 6+. Children under 6 years old must be attended by an adult.  All materials will be provided by the library.  Space will be limited and registration is required.       • Junk Mail Envelopes- Patrons ages 12+ can join the West Seneca Art Society on Saturday, February 17th from 10:30am-12pm to learn how to make beautifully upcycled junk mail envelopes. All supplies are provided. Tweens may bring an adult if they wish! Space will be limited and registration is required- please call 716-674-2928 or stop by the library to register!
      • Kids Craft Night- Join us for a fun race car craft on Wednesday, February 21st at 1pm in the Makerspace! For kids ages 5-12. Space will be limited. Registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.
      • Teen Escape Room: Valentine's Day- Teens ages 11-17 can join us for a fun Valentine's Day-themed escape room on Thursday, February 22nd. Sessions will take place at 1pm, 2:15pm, and 3:30pm- space is limited and registration is required! Please call 716-674-2928 or stop by the library to register!
      • Historian Jim Pace: West Seneca- An Overall History- Thursday, February 22nd at 6:30pm in the Community Room. Hear local historian Jim Pace speak on the history of West Seneca and Ebenezer. Space will be limited and registration is required! Please call 716-674-2928 or stop by the library to register.
      • West Seneca Public Library Book Club- Monday, February 26th at 6:30 PM. Discussing Beartown by Fredrik Backman. Event takes place in the Makerspace.  For more information please contact the West Seneca Public Library at 716-674-2928.  Space will be limited. No food or drink is permitted.
      • Rick Falkowski: Influential Buffalo Women in the 19th and 20th Century-  Join local author Rick Falkowski on Thursday, February 29th at 6:30pm in the library community room! He will give a review of historic and influential women from Buffalo and WNY who influenced area society and culture, while working in education, law, social welfare, entertainment, business, manufacturing and philanthropy during the 1800s and 1900s.       • Erie County Mental Health First Aid-  Join the Erie County Office of Health Equity in a mental health first aid training for adults interacting with other adults. The training takes place on Saturday, March 2nd and Saturday, March 16th from 10:30am to 2:30pm. Both sessions must be attended. This training teaches people how to recognize signs of mental health or substance use challenges in adults 18 and over, how to offer and provide help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate care.       • Mario Day- Join us for a fun-filled celebration of all things Mario! Mario Day will take place on Saturday, March 9th at 1pm, inside the West Seneca Public Library. We will have crafts, games, and more! Registration is highly encouraged for this event- please call 716-674-2928 or stop by the library for more information!
      • Kids Craft Night- Kids ages 5-12 can join Miss Emily for a fun craft on Monday, March 11 at 5pm. We will be making Shamrock Wreaths! Space will be limited and registration is required. Please call 716-674-2928 or stop by the library to register or for more information!
      • St. Patrick's Scavenger Hunt- Stop by the library any day between Tuesday, March 12th and Saturday, March 16th to try our fun St. Patrick's Day themed scavenger hunt! This all ages scavenger hunt will take place in the children's room of the West Seneca Public Library. Registration is not required.

      • Book a Technology Trainer-  Tuesday, March 12th between 4pm and 7pm. Need computer assistance? We can help! These free 45-minute sessions are designed to assist with software support or Internet training. Topics include training on the Microsoft Office suite and even how to download books on your tablet or phone! Sessions are on the hour, and registration is required by calling 716-674-2928 or stopping by the library information desk. 
      • Baby & Me-  You and your baby (ages 0-24 months) can join Miss Emily for six weekly sessions of Baby & Me! Wednesdays at 10am on March 13th, 20th, 27th, and April 10th, 17th, 24th! If you register, please make sure you and your baby can make it to all 6 sessions. This program will take place in the library's Community Room. Space will be limited and registration is required- call the Library to register at 716-674-2928, or stop in to sign up.

      • Colorectal Cancer Screenings At-Home Kit Pickup- Screening now starts at age 45! Come to the West Seneca Public Library on Monday, March 18th starting at noon for an At-Home Early Detection Screening Kits offered by the Erie County Cancer Services Program. You can also call 716-858-7376 to reach the Cancer Services Program over the phone!
      • Learn About the Solar Eclipse: with the Buffalo Science Museum- Join the Buffalo Science Museum to learn about the upcoming solar eclipse happening April 8, 2024! This all ages program will take place on Monday, March 18th at 5pm at the West Seneca Public Library. We will be giving out one pair of eclipse glasses per person while supplies last.       • Teen Watercolor Painting- Teens ages 11-17 can join us for a relaxing evening of watercolor painting on Thursday, March 21st from 5pm-6pm in the Makerspace. All supplies will be provided!       • Fostering Access, Rights, and Equity (FARE) for Women Workers in NYS- Join Stacey Salgado of the NYS Department of Labor in the West Seneca Public Library Community Room on Monday, March 25th at 6:30pm, for a presentation on employment rights and benefits especially important to women workers in New York State. This 1-hour presentation with Q&A includes useful information for anyone to know and share with others! In addition to general “Know Your Rights” information, we will highlight the current state of the Gender Wage Gap, Salary History Ban and Pay Equity laws, NYS Paid Family Leave, and new regulations about Pay Transparency and Rights for Nursing Mothers in the Workplace. Learning Objectives: Learn about current and upcoming Labor Laws in NYS; know where to turn if faced with certain issues and how to report Labor Law violations; empower yourself with knowledge and resources!       • West Seneca Public Library Book Club- Monday, March 25th at 6:30 PM.       • Easter Egg Story Time- Join Miss Emily for a fun evening of stories, crafts, and an Easter egg hunt! This event takes place on Thursday, March 28th at 6pm at the West Seneca Public Library. For the egg hunt, there will be a limit of 3 eggs per child. Space will be limited and registration is required.       Friends of the West Seneca Public Library

      The Friends of the West Seneca Public Library are community members with an interest in supporting the services offered by the library. The Friends also provide funding for books, programs and supplies for children and adults.  

      The Friends have an ongoing fundraiser!  Purchase a personalized, hand-carved wooden book which will be displayed in the library over the fireplace!  Full details here.

      The West Seneca Public Library now has several West Seneca school yearbooks available for in-library use.  A list of the volumes included in the collection (along with volumes that we do not yet have) can be found HERE.  

      A special thank you to the West Seneca Central School District and the West Seneca West alumni for their generous efforts in helping to assemble this collection of yearbooks!
